About this listen

In the wonderful fairy tale, Charles Dickens creates a number of memorable characters, including a King, who also has a regular office job and is always running out of money, his lovely wife, the Queen and their 17 children, as well as an elderly and very cranky fairy who gives their eldest daughter a magic fishbone she can use to grant one wish. However it will only work if the "circumstances are right".Click here to see all the titles in our Charles Dickens collection.Public Domain (P)2009 Jimcin Recordings Fairy Tales, Folk Tales & Myths Literature & Fiction Magic Fantasy Royalty

Editor reviews

Published originally for children, Charles Dickens purports that actually a seven-year-old girl authored this make-believe tale. The 23-minute story follows a king whose daughter is given a magical wishbone. In the end, this impatient king must learn a valuable lesson from his wise daughter. Walter Zimmerman gives an excellent and appropriately whimsical performance. Utilizing all registers of his voice, he hypnotizes kids and adults alike with this fanciful fable. Moreover, Zimmerman clearly has fun with the characters' assorted voices. This audiobook will get kids laughing and thinking because what kid doesn't like feeling smarter than her parents once in a while?
