Story
I return home to our beautiful house on a chilly winter evening expecting to find my handsome husband Richard waiting for me by the fire. We’re still so in love, and he always takes care of me. He usually comes straight back from work. But tonight, our antique clock ticks on through the dark evening, with no sign of him. Then a knock at the door shatters my perfect life. A 12-year-old-girl, Alice from the village, has been found unconscious in the field behind our house. They say she was last seen getting into Richard’s car.

Story
Ava only left her daughter in the pushchair for five minutes. The buckle was fastened, and she was sure it was safe. But when she came downstairs, the door was open and Abi was gone - she walked down the road, past the Lovegoods' house, and was never seen again. A year later, the Lovegoods throw a housewarming party, showing off the results of their renovation. Ava doesn’t want to go. She can’t bear to look down that end of the road, to see the place where Abi vanished, and she doesn’t want to spend time with people who don’t share her grief.

Story
Daniel is everything I ever dreamed of. A handsome, successful doctor who truly swept me off my feet. I can’t wait to get back from our honeymoon and begin our new lives together. Except, rather than taking us back to our flat, Daniel announces we are moving to a new house in a different city. And when we arrive, the house is fully furnished, with plates in the cupboard, pictures on the walls and new clothes in my closet. It’s like someone already lives here. It seems a bit strange. But I know Daniel is just trying to make sure our new life is perfect, right from the start.

Story
The moment Joanna told me she was engaged, I had this awful feeling that something was wrong. We used to speak on the phone every day. Growing up I spent more time at her house than I did at my own. I’d always imagined what it would be like to see her get married, and now I didn’t even know her fiancé’s name. She asked me to come and meet Mark and I intended to tell her to slow down. When I got to Joanna’s front door, only Mark was there. He was charming and gorgeous and nothing but nice to me, and I started to understand....And then he told me that Joanna was missing.

Summary
Every year on the same day, on the anniversary, I receive a single black rose. Thirteen years of dark petals, jagged thorns, dredging up memories I’ve tried to forget…
I’ve packed up my life. All my belongings are carefully sealed in labelled boxes, my suitcases ready for my big move. I’m just days away from a new life abroad with my boyfriend, Ben.
No one knows the real reason I’m desperate to leave.
My best friend, Lena, is throwing me a leaving party. A celebration, to say goodbye. Champagne to toast my farewell. Speeches, full of fond memories.
No one knows what I’m running from.
Then another black rose appears, dragging up 13 years of buried memories. My passport goes missing. The very people I am trying to escape from turn up at our house.
Someone knows what I did.
This party was meant to be the first night of the rest of my life - but now I don’t know if I’ll see tomorrow.
Someone knows my secret. They’re in my home, they're at my party, and they’re making me pay for it.
Psychological thrillers don’t get more addictive than this! Fans of K. L. Slater, The Girl on the Train and The Wife Between Us will love it.

Boring, contrived and totally implausible.
Don’t bother waiting for a twist, there isn’t one. I stuck with this, thinking it might be about to live up to a vague promise of a fairytale-like turn towards something interesting and weird, but what you start with is what you finish with. And maybe an unintentional and distasteful hint of The Great Gatsby.

Slow, Disappointing Burn
This was not a psych thriller. It was a book about emotionally immature characters that needed therapy. The narration was unbearably boring at times.
