This is so great. Never a dull moment as Utred grows up from a boy to fighting in a shield wall.

after binging the show on Netflix I needed more! This was perfect, it's Uhtred telling his life story as an older man so you get the stuff from the show but loads more! Really engaging, wonderfully told and just what I wanted!

I have read the books previosuly but enjoyed the audio experience. Im hooked on the audio already one book in.

story is a great mix of old england tales and legends, with the fictional side to offer that attachment. Great book, great series!

Good story that really benefits from a brilliant narrator. I chose this because I heard a very good interview with the author on a podcast, you get a real reflection of his character here, dedicated but loving his storytelling.
The central character arc works very well, even though it spans a period of about 15 years. I would have liked a bit more effort on the character of Alfred but I guess this isn’t his book. The history is well researched, I really enjoyed the languages and the way this book brings 9th century vikings and Englishmen to life.
Genuinely can’t wait to hear the next one!
I normally listen to/read light modern fantasy/sci-fi, but was looking for a new series - this fits the bill nicely.
