About this listen

A transatlantic serial killer thriller with a twist of Biblical proportions.

Christmastime in London: a period of joy and togetherness. Not for Metropolitan Police Commander Austin Grant, though. Three dead bodies have turned up on his patch, and the only thing they have in common is a number carved into their foreheads.

A professor of ancient mythology, a sculptor of curious idols, frontman of The Blasphemers. It seems the killer is meting out their own justice, Biblically, punishing those who transgress the Ten Commandments. With seven commandments left, Grant sets the Met's best detectives to the case, scouring the capital before the zealot can strike again.

But soon enough, a fourth victim turns up. In New York City. It appears Grant has a transatlantic manhunt on his hands. He's going to need all the help he can get from the NYPD if he's to stop the killer - before he reaches the last commandment.

Critic reviews

"A serial killer seems to be taking his cues from Agatha Christie and Ellery Queen.... A fast-paced tale that weds its golden-age homage to some serious violence. Sinners beware." (Kirkus)

"A twisty, turny globetrotting tale filled with mystery and suspense." (F. Paul Wilson)

Enjoyed the story and mix between the UK and America. Characters were good as was the narration.

Great read

Well read, good listening, but the final twist was too far for me, so by the end I had not enjoyed the experience; others might.

Ultimately I found the twist implausible.

Very obvious that this was written by an American with minimal knowledge of Britain! We don’t say ‘gotten’ and I’d love to know where in London you can find a telephone box that takes shillings!!!!

Not bad for a freebie

After starting this book, I initially stopped listening as I found the narration really irritating. The narrator certainly has a unique style, ending every sentence as a question together with dragging out the end of each word that ended in the ‘s’ sound. I decided to give it another go and thankfully the narrator calmed down as the book progressed (or I either got used to the style of narration) either way, I’m glad I stuck with it as this is a terrific listen. The plot was excellent and, whilst I did kind of figure it out, it was still a surprise when it all came together. I would have happily used a credit on this book but as part of the Plus Catalogue, I didn’t have to - bonus!

Very Enjoyable
