Summary

Wow! I’ve loved reading this series (and the Hornblower books) but The Ionian Mission is truly remarkable. The finale is simply the best written sequence of naval warfare I have ever heard. A superb writer in full swing and masterfully read. I can’t recommend this highly enough!

Although a rip roaring tale in its own right the story goes so much deeper into the human condition. Love, friendship, the Royal Navy of that age, all mingle with superb description and an excellent technical knowledge of the subject to produce an emersive experience on which to dwell for a few hours.
