About this listen

They came in their thousands. We fought them as one. It started during a winter storm on the North Eastern Seaboard which brought with it a strange green rain. Where it fell, everything withered, died, and was consumed. The residents of remote outposts in Maritime Canada escaped the worst of the early damage, but that was a blessing in disguise, for they were left to watch as first North America, then the world, was subsumed in the creeping green carpet of terror. And that was just the beginning.

If you’d asked me last year whether I preferred modern or classic sci-fi I would have said modern. A lot of the classics are too bogged down in social commentary for me. Recently though I’ve discovered a whole series of less known, often shorter works that just hit the spot. This is one of them. Aliens invade. A crew of soldiers, available civilians and scientists band together to save the world. Sounds familiar: but here’s the thing: no one happens to fall in love, heroes die, and vindication takes time. Was upset to lose the characters that didn’t make it. Great action combined with true humanity. The narration is top notch on this one too! I received this audiobook for free in exchange for a fair review.

Classic sci-fi
