a unique blend of sci-fi and fantasy

The story and characters were written incredibly well, as I have come to expect from Akemi Dawn Bowman's books. The world building was incredible and it left me with such a sense of curiosity. I found Nami and the Prince to be the most compelling characters, which they were likely supposed to be. I'm very interested to find out how their story continues in book 2. Only downside was that the narration was very monotonous, to the point that I often couldn't tell who was talking or hear the difference between speech and the MC's inner monologue. It lacked emotion and some of it didn't match the tone that was being described in the story at all. She sounded perpetually bored and wooden, and it made it hard to concentrate on what was happening.
