About this listen
From USA Today bestselling author Holly Renee comes the second book in the scorching romantasy series with enthralling secrets, impassioned enemies, and luring tension.
Verena was the lost princess of Marmoris, the very thing we had spent our entire lives looking for, and I had let her go.
The lingering taste of her mixed with the deep ache in my chest over her betrayal haunted my days and nights. I knew she was hiding something, but her secrets were far more treacherous than I could have imagined. Though I wished my own betrayal hadn't been so bitter on my tongue.
Now, my dreams are haunted by the way her deep blue eyes looked up at me in shock when I revealed I knew her truth. The way I crave for her to look at me now as I hunt for her. Me, along with half of the rebellion.
If my father finds her before me, there is no telling what he will do to her. And even though she's the little traitor I always thought she was, I can't allow him to find her.
But his orders were clear. The princess is to be taken by the rebellion or she will be taken by the gods. I don't know which is worse.
She is the heir to our kingdom, the daughter of the cruel king who was responsible for my mother's death, and the key to winning our rebellion.
I vowed to my father that I would find her, the one person I wish I didn't have to.
Verena is the hunted heir. But more than anything, she is mine.
Narrated in duet style.

This was another amazing dual narration audiobook. These two narrators both did such an excellent job!👏⭐️
Wow, this was so gripping. It picks up where book 1 concluded, which was a relief after that cliffhanger.
Daddy Dacre 🥵 may be having a lot regrets about how he treated Niya/Verena and deservedly so, especially when his dastardly Dad orders most of the rebels to go and capture her!👊😳 Wren is distraught at the thought.
Verena is in a desperate run for her life, from the rebellion as well as from her fathers guards. She isn't wise in the ways of hiding and travelling in the woods, but she's determined to escape.
Once our potential couple reconnect, after discoveries of betrayals, they have to try to find a way forward. This is especially hard while she's feeling so bitter about how he treated her.💔
Lines such as:
"Haunted by thoughts of what I should have done, of the way I should have worshipped you."
And
"Like salt in sea, you have become ingrained in every part of me, and I have been drowning in my regrets."
Begins to show Dacre's true, deep regret about his treatment of her.
The ending of this deliciously spicey, tension filled, and, at times, frightening instalment, was agonising!
I was left feeling a bit queasy and teary.🥺⭐️ Roll on book 3.🙏🏼

Dacre and Verena's dynamic remains the highlight of the story, especially the delicious cat-and-mouse reunion that absolutely delivered. The spice hit the perfect balance too, slow burn at first, then escalating into something far hotter once their paths collided again. Their chemistry felt intense and emotional, and the high stakes surrounding them made every moment crackle a little more.
The reason this lands at four stars instead of five is simply because a few character behaviours started to feel predictable. Some of Dacre's reactions became repetitive, and yes, Verena's "Please, Dacre" moments did test my patience at times. But even with those minor frustrations, the story still packed a punch, and that ending was nothing short of diabolical. I closed the book and thought yes I am completely invested and already desperate for the next instalment.
A bit more originality needed in the banter
