Summary

The debut of a phenomenal new middle-grade talent.

In all the ways that matter, Mark is a normal kid. He's got a dog named Beau and a best friend, Jessie. He likes to take photos and write haiku poems in his notebook. He dreams of climbing a mountain one day.

But in one important way, Mark is not like other kids at all. Mark is sick. The kind of sick that means hospitals. And treatments. The kind of sick some people never get better from.

So Mark runs away. He leaves home with his camera, his notebook, his dog, and a plan to reach the top of Mount Rainier - even if it's the last thing he ever does.

The Honest Truth is a rare and extraordinary novel about big questions, small moments, and the incredible journey of the human spirit.

Honestly Good!

I chose this story, because I have some personal connections to that feeling of helplessness when it comes to sickness and loss. Gemienhart is a gifted writer. He is able to tell a heart wrenching story in a way that leaves the listener not wanting to push the pause button. I couldn't help but cheer Mark on, even when I was so angry at him. Podehl wonderfully performs this story with passion.

Amazing

This was an amazing heartwarming story that kept you on your seat until the very end. The authors use of imagery and figurative language allowed you to feel as if you were with Mark on his journey and with Jessi through her torn dilemma. This is definitely a great book.

amazing!

This book is so well written! It described the challenges, emotionally and physically, of having cancer and having a goal. The narrator did a great job representing how everyone felt. This book is incredible and I 100% recommend it to any 10-15 year old.
