Summary

A Cado Ezechiar Novel

In his first full-length novel, the vampiric anti-hero Cado Ezechiar finds himself caught in a web of war and deceit in the city of Aventhis.

Listen to it because

The cold-hearted Cado Ezechiar is obsessed with revenge and keeping to his strict moral code—can he stay true to himself and avenge those who he has lost?

The story

Cado Ezechiar is a wanderer who has outlived the memory of the age that made him. A Soulblight vampire who accepted the curse as his people and kingdom fell to Chaos, he now roams the Realm of Death and beyond seeking retribution and salvation for the ones he failed.

Aided by the bound spirits of those he lost, Cado follows a path of revenge, hunting the servants of Chaos to slake his need for blood while seeking the Sorcerer of Change who destroyed his kingdom. When his hunt leads him to the free city of Aventhis, Cado becomes caught up in the machinations of greater powers—beings who see the city and its people as dust in the eyes of ambitious gods. Torn between his code of honour and his desire for vengeance, Cado must navigate a web of war and deceit, or lose everything.

Not just another edge lord?

I hate vampires. And vampires that are TOO NOBLE to drink innocent blood is a tired trope, fresh only too naive teenage neonates. Too often vampires are used as a lazy device to add both edgy interpersonal conflict and an excuse to write gore. At first I thought here we go again, but I persisted in the hopes of using some background NPCs for Soulbound. As the story progressed i was surprised to find the writing excellent, the characterisation thoughtful and the story compelling. Richard Reed's telling of the tale is cinematic. I still hate vampires but I loved The Hollow King.

fantastic, one of the best AoS story's I've heard, worthy of a listen. I will be definitely looking forward to the next book of the hollow king.

incredible AOS story, make it a series please GW Hollow king was a great combination of action, story telling and character building with sorrow and redemption but also got you thinking what is wrong and right. great job and thank you for keeping the voice acting clean, sometimes it's to much going on but this was perfect.

Exciting and Well written Warhqmmer Story

This book is quite thrilling and avoided the usual problems present in a lot of Warhammer themed stories. instead of a series of battles set over many, many locations like in the Return of Nagash: End Times book, it is contained to a single setting where it explores the unique fantasy themes of Warhammer. I ended up getting invested in Cado's story and grew to like him as a character. the fight scenes are very well written and it's easy to lose yourself in the very well written setting and specific locations of the book. A must read for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar fans and Soulblight Gravelords fans. it's also a good book to read for those new to the warhammer universe as the book stays centred around specific themes rather than getting lost in the wide and complicated lore of the universe. I highly recommend this book

Absolutely loved this story. Can't wait to hear more of the Hollow King. There was a point near the end (I won't spoil) which gave me full body goosebumps.

A great AOS novel and start to a series!

A great story set in the dark undead worlds of AOS. A strong story that stands above much of the other good AOS offerings with a great lead character and setting. There are a number of standout moments and French really knows how to.write the creepy parts of the world and especially of magic. Superb narration, with clear voiced characters. Worth a listen for sure!

Very unfolding story and great narration!

The Hollow King follows a fallen prince as he attempts to uncover a chaos conspiracy in an old medieval town.

I really like the AOS novels with a strong protagonist. Sometimes I lost the flow of the story and had to rewind. But the narrator Richard Reed (I really liked him in the Cursed City narration) dit a great job and I didn’t mind rewinding.

If there would be a sequel I would definitely listen to that as well.

decent listen

was looking for something not Astartes to listen to, definitely worth it. the story a little predictable towards the end but still a solid plus. epilogue suggested a sequel, hoping it happens.

Always with the humans🙄

Every AoS book that doesn’t feature Stormcast as the protags still has humans as the center focus. Every book that claims to be about Destruction, Chaos, or Death armies always shoehorns in Humans so less intelligent readers have an insert to care about. It’s tiring!

Love AOS Vampires

This was a great way to bring Vampires into Age of Sigmar and the character himself was quite interesting. The point of view of the Lumineth being bad was also a nice thing to see. Books that can make what is to be speculated as the good people look bad always really put a smile on my face. Twisting that always makes for a good story.

Great story!

It was a great slow burn and the way the story laid out kept up the pace enough to be thoroughly enjoyable. Another great job for the voice acting in this one as well!

Another Great AoS Story…

Good story. I read the few short stories about Cado that came before and was really looking forward to this one. Very enjoyable. Richard Reed, as always does a fantastic job with the narration. Looking forward to future volumes… 4 and a half stars.

Good entry point for age of sigmar vampires.

A good vampire story and a good intro into what makes the soul blight of AOS different from other vampires in fiction.

Best voice actor. Okay story.

The narrator is one of the best in the business for sure. The main character however suffered from the classic "so powerful I could destroy you all but I swore an oath". Not my thing personally. The last 3 hours took off and saved it as a whole with only a little bit of the edgy brooding hero to spoil it.

backboneless characters are stupid

why even make an overpowered character of he has no backbone? this book feels stupid because cado being a omni being can defeat people without killing them but is constantly bowing before the stupid

A pretty good listen

I enjoyed this story, the MC was not some OP character, who didn’t break a sweat, and always won the fight.
