Summary

Life can be beautiful if you make it beautiful.

It is up to you.

Eddie Jaku always considered himself a German first, a Jew second. He was proud of his country. But all of that changed in November 1938, when he was beaten, arrested and taken to a concentration camp.

Over the next seven years, Eddie faced unimaginable horrors every day, first in Buchenwald, then in Auschwitz, then on a Nazi death march. He lost family, friends, his country.

Because he survived, Eddie made the vow to smile every day. He pays tribute to those who were lost by telling his story, sharing his wisdom and living his best possible life. He now believes he is the ‘happiest man on earth’.

Published as Eddie turns a hundred, The Happiest Man on Earth is a powerful, heartbreaking and ultimately hopeful memoir of how happiness can be found even in the darkest of times.

I'm speechless but need to say something...

I've never written a review on here before but this book needs to be heard by everyone. It brings the brightest light from the deepest dark. If you ever need a lesson in hope, purpose or the ability of people to triumph over seemingly impossible odds and trauma, you need this audiobook. The narration is top quality as well. Please listen and share, you will be so glad you did.

A must-read

I could not stop listening. A moving, immensely humbling, and uplifting story about surviving the worst horrors that people can inflict on one another. Wonderfully written and narrated. Everyone should read this book.

A deeply moving and inspirational story.

Survival against unimaginable odds. I struggle to fully comprehend the suffering endured by the poor victims of the Holocaust as I have lived a blessed life in contrast. But at least I know I’m blessed, my children are blessed, my friends, my colleagues. I smile and try to feel gratitude every day. Thank you Eddie for reminding me of the reasons we are all here x

a beautiful horrendous story

let there be faith, love and hope. a life without hope is ... hopeless!
beautifully told and quite horrific account of one man's survival. aprovecha in itself that hope is essential to living.
Hate and fear have no place in this world... sadly however they pervade our every day!
An essential read... no matter now many concentration camp stories you might already have heard or read.
Beautiful

A must to read or listen to

Wow, what a book… what a story… what a life! Thank you Eddie for telling us your story. This was not an easy listen in places - heartbreaking but sensitively told. Not only does it tell of the Holocaust but an incredible survival and how the reader has managed to move on to live life fully after such an atrocity. The reader was perfect for the book, it felt so right. Great for all ages. You’ll cry, but you’ll smile and feel uplifted too.

lesson for all

I hope the Jews in Israel listen and learn from this story and from history and start to treat their neighbours and other people that come to them in need with respect and less hatred.

full of so much meaning.

excellent book-very brave to write this experience down. This book really does make you think about the true meaning of happiness and really does remind you about the dangers of discrimination and hate. Even though it is harrowing in places it does leave you feeling very hopful at the end. It is a must read
