Summary

Mark just watched his partner and best friend of 10 years torn limb from limb by the kind of unholy horror that leaves most people gibbering in terror. Only a combination of luck and skill kept Mark from sharing his partner's fate and being killed by an abomination that by rights shouldn't exist in this day and age.

When asked, Mark tells people he works recovering stolen artifacts, and that's true. However he's also a member of a very old and secret organization that protects the world from devils and demons summoned here to do evil. A foot soldier on the front lines of the eternal war between Heaven and Hell, things had been favoring the side of Heaven for some time now. Until today that is, when someone discovered how to summon a devil that no one had seen since WWII.

Never popular with his boss, Mark finds himself sidelined as he tries to discover just what happened. Upset with being taken off the case, Mark does discover one thing rather quickly: whoever is behind this is now after him, and if he's not careful he'll be joining his partner sooner, rather than later.

New series great story!

A great new series with a modern twist to hunt demons. Mark Hammer is one of the Vatican's top Devil dispatchers. On what he thinks is a regular demon exorcism, he loses his partner and uncovers a plot with links to Hitler.

Our hero is set against receiving a new partner which makes a conflict between them. Mark does not want to put a newbie in a dangerous situation but he is determine to find out what happen to his first partner.

Much of the story is about believing in the power of faith. The more devoted you are and of course a fighting skill you increase your chances of surviving an encounter with a demon.

It has all the ingredients for an exciting story action, smart protagonist, and a fresh take on an urban fantasy. There is action and a great back story for an exciting start to a new series.

Excellent Start!

An excellent start to an excellent series, I am reviewing this after finishing the 3 book series because I listen while I drive and had to wait. Interesting characters and a intriguing plot, I was drawn in quickly and the story would not let me go. The narration was excellent!
