Summary

The Gruffalo is a familiar and much-loved figure in nurseries, schools and homes everywhere. Now he returns in his very own song to offer truly monster music sessions!

As well as being the UK's most successful picture book author, Julia Donaldson is a gifted songwriter for children, and this volume contains ten of her best-loved songs, sung by the author herself.

These include The Gruffalo, A Squash and a Squeeze, and Monkey Puzzle, as well as fun-filled action songs and energetic cumulative songs. Each score includes piano accompaniment and guitar chords. The songs will be familiar to anyone who has enjoyed one of Julia's hugely popular live performances. Now everyone can sing along!

Not impressed

Terrible! I love Julia Donaldson's writings and stories, especially those narrated by Imelda Staunton, but was very disappointed with these songs sung off-key. Just learnt of the refund credit program and sadly have missed out on it by a few months.

very good

at first, i felt slightly let down, as the material is duplicated without the voice, so the album is only half as long as you think it is.

also, the delivery is quite amateurish. julia donaldson isn't the greatest singer in the world, and the music sounds like it's been done on an old casio keyboard or something.

however, the songs themselves are a delight - warm, witty, and fun. indeed, donaldson's voice really grows on you, as the slightly unprofessional quality can't detract from, or possibly even adds to, the warm enthusiasm she clearly has for her material.

the test isn't production values or the timbre of the voice. the test in my case was my two year old son, and he absolutely loves it. i've had a bbc cd in my car for the last year, and it has been slowly driving me insane due to him not letting me listen to anything else. now, my journeys with my son have this as the soundtrack, and I have to say it's a definite turn for the better.

It’s about the kids

I read that most parents didn’t like it! Remember it’s for the kids and my little granddaughter loved it. She picked out words she knew and really enjoyed it.

Awful - do not buy!

The voice is so annoying and also not really a Gruffalo story but set of pointless songs. Even kids did not like it!

out tune singing!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

the contain is ok, but the out tune singing by Julia Donaldson was horrible. I'm afraid that my child will copy it and sing like this too!?

Would you be willing to try another one of Julia Donaldson’s performances?

not for singing... but reading maybe

If this book were a film would you go see it?

yes

Just couldn't listen to it

I love the Gruffalo - (especially the Scots version) so wanted to love this but the songs are awful when performed by someone who can't hold a note. I am afraid it's not a winner and we will stick to Winnie the Pooh.
