About this listen

Who will return home - and who will be sacrificed to the island?

The Greek Island Killer is the first in Francis Lloyd’s Detective Inspector Jack Dawes mysteries. Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie, L. J. Ross, J. R. Ellis, Angela Marsons or Faith Martin.

Detective Inspector Jack Dawes and his bride, Corrie, join eight other holidaymakers bound for a tiny Greek island, ready for a bit of sun, sea and sand.

Mayhem ensues when a storm destroys the island’s primitive communications, cutting it off from civilisation. It’s a perfect opportunity for murder.

First one victim is poisoned, followed swiftly by another. Then a woman is found badly beaten in a quiet cove and a body is found in a grotto to St. Sophia, the island’s patron saint. The island’s visitors are being picked off one by one.

Can Jack uncover the truth before the killer ups the ante? Who will return home - and who will be sacrificed to the island?

the story was a bit week , it was enjoyable but more in the style of a light read rather than a great detective book

enjoyable listen

I thought the plot was gentle and interesting with the tongue in cheek humour. Brilliantly bought to life with the narrative. a very enjoyable listen.

I liked this easy listen. I listen to a lot of crime thrillers and this was more simplistic and a bit more fun. Loved Sid’s character the most. Bit of a love story, but if Greek mythology and of course more than one villain. Catastrophos! Love it

I got this without reading the reviews which are on the whole negative. But if you’re looking for something light & very easy to listen to them I would recommend it. I personally didn’t have a problem with the narrator.

Pleasantly surprised

Set on an isolated Greek island, this book has an amusing if slightly absurd premise. Unfortunately the lone DI (British) on a 'mission' has been sent conveniently with not way of communicating with the outside world (compact satellite phones have been around for a long time, surely Scotland Yard have a budget?) and is a wee bit sense, made up for his hapless wife who is deeply dump and unaware of almost everything and everyone around her. It was a fun way to spend a couple fo train journeys, even if the narrator seems to treat it a an Enid Blyton of the 1970s

Talking of that, set in the 2000s, social attitudes which were considered objectionable in the 1970s are still tolerated among the British guests and the DI, fo an officer working overseas (one assumes without the knowledge of the Greek authorities) seems clueless about juridstictns and what happens when a crime gets committed on Greek territory.

Amusing but somewhat confused about which century
