Loved every second of it

The story was absolutely brilliant. loved every second of it. But I didn't particularly like the narrator's voice for Damien,Anastasia and Breanna, the 3 main characters of the story. Her voice for Damien really didn't suit him. It suited George but not Damien. But I will definitely listen to the next one of the series.

Inaccurate historical details & annoying narrator

I've listened to several books from this author since they are part of the Plus catalog. The first book I listened to was published in 1991 and this in 1999. Even after 8 years, the author has not done her research into the historical period the stories are set in. She consistently gets wrong the titles and addresses of British aristocracy. In a previous book, an earl and his countess were referred to as Mr. and Mrs. In this book, she did the same. Additionally, the heroine is the daughter of the younger son of a viscount so she should not be addressed as Lady and her father is not Lord. More egregiously, the heroine's aristocratic family runs an import-export business, with a branch in America. In the early 1800s no less! Not only that, the hero, a marquess, runs a bank and meets with clients. The nobles in that period look down on trade and would never personally take part in trading (they might invest). Their income is derived from their estate. The author also seems to think that distances (like 40 miles to and fro) in those days can be overcome in the matter of hours not days. Additionally, the author has the household staff tooling around in phaetons. My understanding is that phaetons are sporting open vehicles, favored by the rich and aristocrats. It's like saying the household staff can access an Alfa Romeo sports car whenever they chose. So,.. very sloppy research (if any).

As for the narrator, Flora MacDonald is also Alison Larkin and I find her simply aggravating. She has a highly affected, sugary sweet, high pitched "squishy" voice and tends to mince her words. The females all sound like giggling 5 year olds.

Long but ok story

I got through the entire book, it’s long but interesting. It kept my attention. You might need a cold shower after the sex parts! I got bored and skipped past them, been there so didn’t need instructions!

Narrator makes or breaks an audiobook

In this case we are talking about a huge break. Much batter if you read the book yourself. A real shame.

I really tried to like this book....

Plot is predictable, but good. I had a difficult time liking MC.
I felt like the story was forced into the Regency time period. In my opinion, it would have fit better in the Victorian era.
I would have liked it more if I had read instead of listened to it. Narrator sounded like Moaning Myrtle. She made the females sound insipid and juvenile with high wispy voices.

enjoyable

a good, fast moving plot. clear characterisation, entertaining dialogue, very well read.
main criticism, plots (especially plan at end for the docks) got very complex, too intricate. simple could be better.

Bana- The ending sucks

Had a half descent storyline going. Had the same trouble with the narrator haveing to many voices to do made it hard to follow at times. Same as in book one. Had me guessing has to who the killer was. thought I figured it out once, but not. Why didn't they figured out the finger thing, why didn't anyone point out anyone that always wore gloves in doors? That was just brushed over. Then you get to the ending. How stupid, why would all the main male characters leave the two targets to chase after the killer. Why would the girls sneak out looking for the killer. If all their men are out chasing the killer, Once out side why not stay together??? You could have accomplished the same results staying in the house. (trying not to spoil the whole ending).

A mystery

I am very pleased to have had the experience of listening to this ebook by Andrea Kane, narrated by Flora MacDonald. A fabulous regency romance with an unexpected mystery. The characters are well developed and defined, as was the amount of depth in the plot! I believe this is my first time experiencing a narration by Flora MacDonald. Very well done showing definite talent at story telling. Andrea Kane is a new author to me, but I loved the book so have already purchased the next one! It's a great marriage of mystery and regency romance. Easy to recommend to others! 😍

The Men

All the ale characters sound just like Snidely Whiplash on the Dudley Do-right cartoon. very weird.
