Critic reviews

"Kate Hamer conjures mystery with such grace, cool beauty and urgent suspense.... Brilliant." (Matt Haig)
"Kate Hamer's novel is both gripping and sensitive - beautifully written, it is a compulsive, aching story full of loss and redemption." (Lisa Ballantyne)

A gripping story

Excellent story for listening in the car on a long journey. The author captures so well the language, comprehension and world view of a child. The narrator very cleverly adopts a different tones for the two protagonists. Congratulations all.

very disappointed

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I am afraid I gave up on it.

Would you ever listen to anything by Kate Hamer again?

Don't know, not because she does not write well, but because I am not into the paranormal.

What aspect of Antonia Beamish’s performance might you have changed?

It started off very well, but then turned into the land of fantasy. Not my cup of tea.

Could you see The Girl in the Red Coat being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I was expecting a crime book , but got something different.

Good story, worth a listen

This book was slow to begin with, but once I'd got into it I was intrigued.
The story offers a little more than the standard modern thrillers which all seem to feature attractive, slightly flawed women.

The story does get better and better, so I would recommend sticking with it. Antonia Beamish read the book very well.

Great read

Couldn't put it down. It's been a while since I've been grabbed by a story or experienced tearful moments whilst listening. Highly recommended.

A very intriguing tale

The basic structure of the story is believable but it is rather drawn out although the ending is good. Must have been drawn from the Madelaine disappearance.

Great story

Would have been even better if the narrator didn't insist on shouting into the microphone!
