About this listen

A stolen child. A terrible wartime secret.

Norway, 1940. Seduced by Nazi propaganda, Liv offers herself to the German High Command as war reaches rural Norway. She has something very special that they want in Berlin - but the personal cost will be terrible. Can she survive what she did as a naïve young woman in 1940?

England, 1968. Agnes, orphaned by the war, has grown up happy in the quiet wealth of the English countryside, raised by her adoring grandfather to be a perfect lady. But when he suddenly dies, she unveils a secret that changes everything. Agnes is not who she thought she was - and she is not safe.

Will Agnes pursue deep-buried secrets and put herself, and others, in danger? Will the truth set her free?©2024 Marius Gabriel (P)2024 Bonnier Books UK

I found this story was a very very hard listen as in the things that people endured throughout their lives n the inhumanity of the human race .it was well written and narrated

excellent story

Although part of the story takes place during the second world war, much of it focusses on what happens to the characters afterwards, how the war and its consequences and contrasting ideoligies impact on their lives and their thoughts and feelings, how they see themselves and how others see them. However, without being superficial, this is done with a light touch and first and foremost is a good piece of well paced storytelling.

A story deftly told

An Amazing Story, so well written and researched, and I felt I learnt so much. I didn't know anything about Himmler's Aryan race, I also didn't really know that much about the Berlin Wall, or what it was like to live on the other side in East Germany, I knew it was ruled by the Soviet Union, but even though 1968 was not really that long ago, it was still a very harsh rule, so different from the West, and no life for those poor people who lived there. I've read four of Marius Gabriel's novels so far and they are some of my favourites, especially The Parisians. I thank Marius so much for his meticulous research and for teaching me so much about a subject we should never forget, and how we should value our life in today's world. I loved the narrator too, so well read, I actually listened to it in three days. I know for sure I will be listening to the rest of Marius's books.

An Amazing Story

The narration style grated and the German pronunciation was off. The female characters were not believable

Disappointed
