About this listen

Loyalty costs money.

Betrayal, on the other hand, is free.

When the Emperor is taken hostage, the Red Knight and his men find their services in high demand - and themselves surrounded by enemies. The country is in revolt, the capital city is besieged and any victory will be hard won. But The Red Knight has a plan.

The question is, can he negotiate the political, magical, real and romantic battlefields at the same time - especially when intends to be victorious on them all?

The plot and cast thicken and grow. One of the best narrated books I've heard.

Strong follow up

A genuinely engaging story, following on from "The Red Knight", populated with well-drawn and believable characters. The occasional bad simile, but in a tale of this size it's almost bound to happen. Generally well-narrated, but one or two words get mangled - my pet hate is 'deh-mez-ney' (rhyming with Disney) for demesne (deh-mean), but it is a relatively small grumble.

Can't wait for "The Dread Wyrm"!

Good story, spotty pronunciation

This is fantasy at its best - yet one of the most amazing parts is the realism of its battles.

This is among the top 5 of the epic fantasy genre.

Matthew Wolf is perfect in his narration.

Fantastic Fantasy!

after a slow start it really didn't really get that good until a third of the way through.
the book itself was more of a aftermath of the first book as well as a prologue of sorts to the next one.
I really look forward to it.

another good epic

Turning out to be an epic knight’s tale brilliantly narrated by Mr Wolf who brings feeling to the characters in line with some of the best narrators that I've had the pleasure to listen to

Top Notch
