It’s been a long wait for this to finally come to audible and i have to say having read the book 3/4 times listening to it gave it new depth, it really did bring home the cruelty and sheer stupidity of the inquisition, not to mention the politicking of the hierarchy in the GK, the narration was excellent and whilst I know everyone wants Jonathan Keeble or Toby Longworth to narrate everything it is refreshing to get a new voice, Christopher Kent nailed Hyperion and the GK and did a great job on the wolves, and any book that Bjorn the fell handed in has to be a winner

I had heard rave reviews about this book and I even managed to get a copy of the print version but 6 months later I haven’t gotten around to reading it so I got the audio. It’s a great book as I’m a grey knights fanatic.

The books is essentially 2 stories - the war on Armageddon and the aftermath. The book proves once again that the inquisition is basically based on ‘that order that started WW11’ using incredibly inhumane methods to meet and end that, can be avoided and handled without the loss of billions of lives.

Anyway, love the grey knights but here they smash demons half the book then get made to look like absolute mugs by the grey wolves in the second half….. so much so that you wonder why they were ever created if there are better incorruptible forces out there… still that aside it’s a great book albeit more favourable to the Wolves in character building and leading to other stories than Grey knights.

as a grey knights player in the 40k game this is a 1st person view of what the lore and life of a grey knight is truly like and how loyal they are to their cause, if you enjoy the lore or the ideal then this book will really seal the deal, highly recommend.
