excellent as expected

A brilliant prequel to the Charlie Parker saga and regular readers wont be disappointed. Its good to get a look at what forces created the character we've all come to love with the subtle presence of the supernatural hanging around him like a cloak. very enjoyable and finished in two sittings.

Enjoyable audiobook

I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook, I have read and listened to all the Charlie Parker series, I did think John Connolly was about to retire the detective but he is back to his best, read by Jeff Harding who is superb as usual, I’m sure everyone who follows the series will enjoy this book, looking forward to the next; seem to be growing older together

Not the best Charlie Parker story

I was so excited to order this book but have to say I'm a little disappointed with it. The book was enjoyable enough and as ever it's beautifully read, but I felt cheated out of knowing the next part of the Charlie Parker story, I want to move forwards not backwards.

Love John Connolly, Hate this narrator!

Every time he did a female or gay characters voice it made me cringe. I hope this narrator isn’t used again for John Connolly’s books or I’ll have to go back to my kindle! I persevered this time but it was painful.

Fantastic Parker story and narration , as always

Going back a little in time, this sees Parker beginning his quest against the baddest of the bad. The narration is amazing and helps the story flow. In all the Parker stories you get a real feel for the community and surroundings he finds himself in, which adds hugely to the enjoyment, and this is as good as ever here. Highly recommended and could even be a 'Starter Parker' if you have not read the others.

Underwhelming

I've read the entire series and have to say this was my least favourite. The writing is, as always, witty and concise, but the story fell short. It felt contrived, like he was contracted to write another book but had run out of ideas. No twist, flat characters, just a let down really. 😔

Another excellent book in the series!

As I have seen written in reviews of other books narrated by Jeff Harding, he could make paint drying enjoyable! However, in the case of John Connolly and the Charlie Parker series, whilst excellent as always, Jeff simply completes what is an excellent partnership. Mr Connolly is a brilliant author, his stories vibrant and detailed, and his characters and plots superb. It was a treat that Angel and Louis were also in this book, albeit it in quite a minor role. And of course Jeff, who has made Parker et al his own, was the icing on the cake. Just sad we've finished this long awaited latest. Keep up the good work and look forward to many more!

Fantastic! One of the best in the series

Just what Charlie Parker needed. A reminder of who he was, where he came from and why he has been doing, throughout all the books, what he does
