Summary

The first book in a new fantasy LitRPG series has arrived.

A Goddess is stirring up trouble, and Arthur happens to be the one caught up in the action. After an unfortunate encounter, Arthur is given a second chance in a new world. To his surprise, this new world has mechanics that remind him of role-playing games from Earth.

He has been given a simple directive from the Goddess, to help the people of the world and spread her name. He quickly discovers this will not be an easy task. The world has been overrun with bandits, who work for the lords of the land and cause all the denizens to live in abject ruin. Can Arthur tame Dravincia and push back against these forces or is he destined to fail spectacularly and have to hope for another try?

A very solid start to a new story.

The only negative to this book is the over the top stats the author goes into. I am a big fan of Litrpg, but the level of detail was a bit much for me. The author should condense them into a few chapters through out the book so people have the option to skip if they want. apart from that, bring on book 2!

Lv up, exp, congratulations

I liked the story, just wished there was more of it. It felt liked half of the book was "Congratulations you have gained exp" ect. If that's your thing great, but I prefer more story and character time.
I liked the magic leveling system just wish it was more streamlined.
But I did like characters and the base building.

Not to shabby

I was given a free copy of this book and I'm leaving an honest and voluntary review.
The story is good, a nice pace and well balanced. the characters are likeable and have depth to them.
Good amount of detail along with good world building.
the narration is really good, brings the characters to life.
the background sound effects are apt, they don't over power the narration.
I'd definitely recommend this book.

Nice litrpg book with decent narration.

a new author and new series, so some minor hiccups are to be expected, but very nicely done anyway. The story is pretty "standard" with some minor 18+ elements, but nothing to graphic or excessive.

my only real issue was with the chapter changes, the "music" inbetween was too long and not needed, especially since some chapter changes are in the middle of combat, breaking the flow too much.
might grow into a decent series.

Delivers an interesting start to this series

The manner by which the main character ends up stuck in the world with game mechanics feels a little too convoluted even by the standards of the genre, but at the same time it is an interesting way to set a number of things up for the series and is a change from the more common trope of being trapped in a vrmmo too.

The author does a good job of progressing through the early stages of the story at a suitable pace to interest the reader, rapidly getting the main character to the game-like world and then skipping over some of the earliest levels that could have otherwise seemed a little repetitive once we had seen the basic mechanics of levelling.

There were some issues for me with this book, the main character just seems a little too over-powered and it would have been fine for more of the other characters to be better than him at more stuff. The other issue I had was due to the audiobook's production, there are additional sounds beyond the narrator and while most of them were fine, there was one between each chapter that seemed to serve no purpose other than to disrupt my immersion in the story and I hope they drop the use of that one from the next book.

The narrator of this book did a very good job with this book, delivering a wide and interesting range of distinctive voices for the characters that suitably enhanced the story and helped to bring the characters to life.

Overall, I thought this book got the balance right between setting up the series and being entertaining enough in it's own right and I am interested to see where the series goes next.

Great start but some audio issues

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A great premise and a fun twist on the typical litrpg formula, even the level-ups have witty nods to some of the achievements tracked both in-game and on platforms like Steam for reaching the milestones. What kept me from rating this higher is that Ochlan, for all his talents at the voices, possesses a very...incompatible I guess is the right word, voice for the narrator role. Whether this is due to the flow of the writing, his accent, or a conscious choice on his part, the switch between the speech and the narrative is frequently very jarring.

I can't assign blame for this upon either Ochlan or Severson, and my opinion doesn't change that both are very talented individuals. I just feel that in this instance it would have been a better listening experience if Ochlan had maintained the voice of the speaking character until completing the "Arthur said" ending to whatever Arthur (in this example) was saying. Alternatively, Severson could maybe have phrased the passages better, however with multiple characters to cover options are limited in that regard. A little artistic licence to maintain the voice for a smoother transition would be the simplest option, and as the one bringing the story to audible life I feel the narrator had this choice.

Very Exciting Series

The first of a new series is always a gamble but i was very happy when i listened to this audio. The author is new to me but i liked the cover and sound of it ,and i was impressed that the usual first foray into a new world was given some love and attention. The characters stand out as does the catch with impressive language skills and luck the expected quick levels up work quite well.
A special mention to Ochlan who is quite good on other works i have came across ,shines especially well on this audio as the usual level up comments and sound effects were done exceedingly well. A certain character has a remarkable voice like a certain Scottish spy called 00' ' and gives some light relief which im sure will be great in further adventures.
So in summary a new author to follow and a new series to add to my bugeoning must have list.
I requested this audio and have decided to leave my thoughts for everyone.

endless stat sheets

Sounds like a phone book for the most part. In between there's some generic fighting and settlement building, which is not much better. the sound effects are a bit annoying too, though I could live with them if the story was any better.
