Story
A secret government unit is formed under the oversight of Adam Harrison, famed paranormal investigator. The case: In a historic mansion in New Orleans’ French Quarter, a senator’s wife falls to her death from a balcony. Most think she jumped, distraught over the loss of her young son. Some say she was pushed. And yet others believe she was beckoned by the ghostly spirits that inhabit the house - once the site of a serial killer’s grisly work.

excellent romantic suspense novel
- By Mrs. S. A. Lynch on 06-01-18
Summary
Genevieve knows all about nightmares. She herself survived two months as a psychopath's prisoner. And now this new menace stalks the city. Spooked by the bizarre slayings, she turns to P.I. Joe Connolly, her past rescuer, friend and...hopefully something more, if he would just quit avoiding her.
At first Joe isn't even sure there is a case. But the body count rises, and it's clear that a twisted killer is on the loose. Even more unsettling is the guidance he starts receiving from beyond the grave. People he knows to be dead are appearing, offering him clues and leads, and warning of some terrible danger ahead.
But can even the spirits stay the hand of a madman bent on murder?

A gem of a listen
I got this as I was interested to learn more about Adam Harrison as I am a Krewe fan.
This turned out to be a gem of a book which was performed by the narrators more like a radio play so it flowed well.
It is part of a series so I think if you have read the previous books you may get more out of this than reading it as a stand alone but it is still very enjoyable.
If you are a Krewe fan then this is very much in the same idea, but maybe slightly less structured. The book flowed well and I was impressed with the characters.
Overall a great listen!!!

Good Sequel
Would you consider the audio edition of The Death Dealer to be better than the print version?
I have not read print edition
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
plot was intriguing.
What does Fred Stella and Natalie Ross bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Love having the two narrators. i'm not particularly critical of voice changes, but few can do the opposite sex very well.

Not A Good Sequel To "The Dead Room"
What did you like best about The Death Dealer? What did you like least?
I really enjoyed the previous novel, "The Dead Room" of which this novel was intended to be a sequel. Alas, the performance was so far removed from it's predecessor that I spent the entire book trying not to compare the performances.
If an author wishes to have sequels performed, please consider using the same performer(s). The change in this case was just too great.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The concept that the both the living as well as deceased characters from the previous novel are still participants in this novel.
What didn’t you like about Fred Stella and Natalie Ross ’s performance?
The performance was too "sterile", lacking in depth and emotion. It was similar to elevator music in it's novel form.
Any additional comments?
Again, the novel would have been best performed by the previous performer. She had the ability to give life to the characters.

Generally really like Heather Graham...
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
No, of all the audio books that I have read, there are few that I would feel were a waste of my time and money. I didn't really care for this book. I didn't care for the story line - it was somewhat irritating and not believable. Plus, the female narrator had the female parts almost bad enough that I nearly turned off the book. I did finish the book - and it was okay. But, overall - not the author's best book.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It was okay...
What didn’t you like about Fred Stella and Natalie Ross ’s performance?
She came across as whiny - not sure that is the best word - but it fits. Really did not come across as a very believable production.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No
Any additional comments?
No

Enjoyable but Predictable
Predictable, some stagnant writing, a lot of tropes at play, so enjoyable but not a wow.
