About this listen

In this exciting sequel to the acclaimed Dead I Well May Be, the mercenary Michael Forsythe is forced to infiltrate an Irish terrorist cell, confronting murder, mayhem, and the prospect of his own execution.

Michael is on holiday in Spain when a soccer riot between the Paddies and the Brits escalates out of control and he winds up in a Spanish prison. Enter Samantha, a beautiful British Intelligence agent. She makes Michael an offer he can't refuse: instead of extradition to Mexico to serve time for a prison break, he can infiltrate an IRA sleeper cell in the United States. Thrust into the nightmare world of men known for their distinctive brands of torture and revenge, Michael crosses and double-crosses key players, narrowly escapes his own lies, loses his only ally, and falls for the daughter of his enemy.

Another brilliant thriller from Adrian McKinty. Atmospheric and suspenseful, a fantastic sequel to Dead I Well May Be. Highly recommended.

Unlike other reviewers of Dead I Well May Be, book 1 in the Dead series, I found it mediocre, lacking in plot, overly wordy but the pace & prose picks up nicely in The Dead Yard.
"The fact is you were in the army, which is good, and you were also a low-level gangster in Belfast, which is even better. And you worked for the Irish mob in America, which is best of all. You could be the ideal person to infiltrate the Sons of Cuchulainn for us." Michael, 5 years into FBI Protection after killing, then exposing a New York Mob, is coerced by the threat of extradition back to Mexico, prison there into infiltrating a small but extremist American IRA cell, whose actions could derail the 1997 Ceasefire / Peace Agreement in Northern Ireland. This he successfully does, but one of the cell nicknamed Touched - as in "touched in the head", a sadistic sociopath with a taste for torturing enemies, remains suspicious of him. The job becomes personal to Michael after Touched works his "little green tool box magic" on Samantha, the English Agent who recruited him. The torture of her & later him is nasty, made me flinch; but, he turns superman, turns the table on the Sons of Cuchulainn, and bloodily culls the lot of them even the daughter who he supposedly loved.
Once again Gerald Doyle's narration is excellent, has completely won me over to the Irish lilt.

A culling of the Sons of Cuchulainn!

Such an exciting story and really well narrated. I don’t normally choose books with such a high level of violence but this so well written it was hard to put it down ( or rather stop listening to it). It’s not all blood and guts though- at times it is rather poetic and funny too. And you can’t help liking the main character. Can’t wait to find out more about Michael’s future exploits!

Gripping
