About this listen

'Truth is the Daughter of Time' is an old proverb. And The Daughter of Time is Josephine Tey's search for the truth about the murder of the Princes in the Tower. Was the hunchback, Richard III, the monster that Shakespeare and the history books have made him out to be? With real brilliance she conducts her search in the form of a crime novel, and her investigator is none other than her famous detective, Inspector Alan Grant, who starts to examine the centuries-old scandal.

This aged old mystery, when analysed with modern sleuthing opens up so many loopholes in the historical/Tudor Shakespearean narrative.

The truth is that Richard III was legitimate and the entire Tudor line was built on a pack of lies.

The implications for today are significant because without the Tudor dynasty there would have been no break with the Catholic church of Rome, no religious wars in the UK, no deposal of the House of Stuart, no House of Hanover, no Georgian kings, no USA and no House of Windsor.

First class. It's definitely bought me

Good characters that paint the setting for an academic romp through the skullduggery of Royalty in Plantagenet/ Tudor cross over - loved it

The narrator was speaking softly enough to fall asleep to. :-). Thank you very much.

Great Narrator :-)

I find the arguments put forward in Ms Tey's book so compelling and I have never heard the reasoning reputed by any historian since I first read the book 20 odd years ago. And they still say 'he did it'. Wonderful performance by Mr Jacobi. Would expect no less.

A must for any history buff
