About this listen

Gaillac, southwest France.

An unsolved case.

Gil Petty, America's most celebrated wine critic, is found strung up in a vineyard, dressed in the ceremonial robes of the Order of the Divine Bottle and pickled in wine.

An uncracked code.

For forensic expert Enzo Macleod, the key to this unsolved murder lies in decoding Petty's mysterious reviews - which could make or break a vineyard's reputation.

An uncorked criminal.

Enzo finds that beneath the tranquil façade of French viticulture lurks a backstabbing community riddled with rivalry - and someone who is ready to stop him even if they have to kill again.

I listen to a lot of Peter May books and usually can't put them down. This one was a tad disappointing - slow and slightly boring for me by comparison. Won't stop me listening to a Peter May book in the future though - still think he's a brilliant writer!

Not my favourite of Peter May books

The background detail was laid on very thickly and overpowered the action rather than complementing it.

Only the second Peter May book I have read, enjoyed it just as much as the first. Interesting character and well interpreted by the reader.

Excellent

Peter May is a master storyteller and I’ve enjoyed all his different series. He researches his subject with passion but in this particular book “less is more” too much in depth description of the wine industry upset the pace of the story. Ending was an anti climax.

A great read, loved the context of wine making and tasting, as I've been shown around a Spanish wine makers in the past, so could visualise quite a lot.
