Summary

Hannah Swan is looking forward to Christmas for the first time in years. Her new job as an eco-consultant is taking her - and her geeky colleague, Noah - to the beautiful Cornish village of Porthgolow for the first time.

They’re are helping the Crystal Waters Hotel to ramp up its green credentials, though after a bumpy journey, Hannah can’t shake off the feeling that Porthgolow is strangely familiar. Never able to resist a mystery, her interest is piqued when the hotel’s staff and customers report odd noises and sightings, believing the hotel to be haunted.

When bad weather cuts off Porthgolow, Hannah and Noah are looking at a Cornish Christmas. It gives them plenty of time to work out what is really going on, but will their yuletide escape send shivers up their spines? Or will it be as warm and toasty as a glass of mulled wine?

Pretty sure that I am not the target audience...

Although I am a 55 year old male, who usually enjoys detective novels and Non fiction. I have found this series a really nice escape from the current horrible state the world is in. Really good use of language and uplifting entwined stories. I hope it will continue.

Light and fluffy

It's a nice story with nice people. If you want something to soothe you before sleep or to occupy you while you sunbathe then this isn't a bad option - apart from the fact it's set in winter and that might feel a bit odd if read on the beach. Anyway, don't expect a great work, but don't expect the absolute worst. This audio book sits nicely in the "pleasant read" category.

Virtue Signalling Silliness & No Real Christmas

I wanted to try this series, having seen so many good reviews. I thought I'd start with a Christmas story as it's the season. So sorry I did. The plot is silly and has almost nothing to do with Christmas, except for some scene setting. Christmas serves as window dressing in the later part of the book, and only the most shallow aspects of the secular holiday are presented. There is an ongoing ghost story that goes nowhere, a mystery from the main character's past, a budding romance, and more supporting characters with their own plots than is necessary. Instead of taking one or two plots and seeing them through in a way that makes sense from beginning to end, all that's presented is a jumble of fluff. The real issue is all of the morally superior heavy handed wokeness that the reader is smashed over the head with on almost every page. The virtue signalling is not just obnoxious, it is detrimental to believability of the plot itself. NO spoilers, but the extended stay in Cornwall makes 0 sense, and shows a disregard for the reader's intelligence. You can write fun, romantic, escapist stories and still have them be grounded in reality. This was a hodge-podge of eye rolling unbelievability from start to finish. So bad it was LOL humorous, especially for anyone who has lived in Edinburgh. Performance was nothing special, but did a good job of portraying the main character as a breathless air-head.

Lovely Christmas Tale

Loved the evocativeness of the hotel could have done without the ghosts but understand how it fitted into the storyline and was never resolved.

Cornish comfort

I just cannot resist these stories. Sometimes you just need to read something with a heartwarming finish but until you get there you’re anxious about the turnout but that the story winds around little sub plots with interesting goings on. Loved the ghost part of this , the wonderful descriptions of food, feelings and love!

Cornish cornucopia.

Loved the story, but didn't need all the ghost rubbish. The story was good enough without it. The 'Gertie' idea was lovely as was Shadow.
