About this listen

My mom told me, “You could have all the success in this world, but if you didn’t help make someone's life better, then you did nothing with your life.” Creating this Coffee Girls book is my way of making my mom's words come true. No one is perfect; we all try to survive. But sometimes, we feel alone and cannot see the light. Tomorrow often becomes too difficult to reach. That's when we discuss our problems with family, friends, and the Coffee Girls. With help from others, people can survive difficult times. This book tells stories of people facing life problems with a helping hand from the Coffee Girls. The message from these stories is that we survive together, and no one stands alone. In my community growing up, there was always a group of women who, if you needed to talk to someone, were there. People didn’t always call the police to solve their issues, not when you had the Coffee Girls to listen and help. They were wise women in the community who handled things in their entertaining, comical, and sometimes gangster-like way.

This Coffee Girls book tells a story through different characters that portray someone's real-life problem. Maybe the elderly are struggling with hallway stairs or housing, someone battling with alcoholism or drugs, surviving a leg amputation or sickness, being bullied or abused, facing an abusive love relationship, financially cheated or scammed, tenant or landlord issues, and the reality of a changing community. These are just a few of the topics explored in these stories. Although all these stories are fiction, they address social issues that we may encounter in our lives. These stories tell how the Coffee Girls handle issues in an entertaining way. They do not portray superheroes coming to the rescue, but rather ordinary women who offer help in their own unique ways. The Coffee Girls offer their helping hand to help others survive their problems. You may be a family member, friend, or stranger who needs help with their life problem.
