Summary

Riane Eisler believes that war and the "war of the sexes" are concepts neither divinely nor biologically ordained. Join the author as she reconstructs a prehistoric culture based on partnership rather than domination and traces the roots of the global shift to patriarchy. Eisler, an acclaimed scholar, futurist, and activist, also presents new scripts for living based on a more socially, economically, ecologically, personally, and spiritually balanced society. This script is in direct opposition to the tension and violence typical of what she calls the dominator model. Her vision is the partnership model, which today is struggling to reemerge. This program is an important contribution to that struggle.

A must read particularly for all men.

You need to read this if you wonder where it all went wrong.
The work is a brilliant synthesis of the history of mankind.

Content 5, Audio quality 2

I read this book a long time ago. I loved the book, but I wanted to listen to the author read it.
The audio quality was terrible and made it difficult to listen to in a sustained way. If they cleaned it up, I would listen again. It's sad, because the content is very exciting as is her writing.

Fascinating information

I found the information in this book very compelling and the author's reading was fine, but the audio quality made listening a bit of a chore. I found I had to focus my listening, which was fine for me, listening in the quiet of my own home, but which might be a problem if a more "active" kind of listening is planned. Great information, though, and I'm anxious to read more from this author. A wonderful book.

Mind Opening and Insightful

What would have made The Chalice and the Blade better?

The sound quality was poor so if this was improved the book would be better.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The role of women in society and within the family over the ages is the main focus of the book and it was very interesting to understand how things have changed.

What does Riane Eisler bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Riane showed her passion about the subject as as always, I love to listen to books narrated by the author so that I can hear their passion in their voice.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

The book made me happy and I had a sort of knowing that everything that Riane described was true. It makes so much sense, and the message is powerful.

Any additional comments?

This book is important and I highly recommend it. Riane has deeply researched this subject and it is comprehensive. It's message could help change how humans treat each other, and it could teach us to love each other as equals. I love the message.

Audio is BAD!

What disappointed you about The Chalice and the Blade?

The audio. It was really bad, like extremely bad, I want my money back bad. I have good a good headset, I cant even hear the words they are so slurred with low quality audio. I tried my really good speakers, same thing. I literally cannot understand this narrator at all, and thats not their fault.

Shame on you Audible, usually you do great things but this is unacceptable.

Any additional comments?

The audio was so bad I couldnt review the book as a whole because I couldnt even understand it. DO NOT waste your money on this. I will be getting mine back.

A horrible listen

My wife and I were excited to read/listen to this book as it had been recommended by one of our guides and teachers.

Unfortunately the reading was of such a poor quality that we could not bear it and as such I returned the book to audible after trying to listen to 1 chapter.

Great book but terrible audio

The book is an amazing historical overview with a deep message about how the past centuries have diminished the female nature and how this is impacting humanity as a whole.
Unfortunately the audio is extremely poor. The narrator is ok, but it is hard to hear her sometimes. Very sad that a silly technical issue could hurt such a great book.

Good book, bad audio

Like most others have said, the audio is bad. Sounds like she’s talking too closely to the microphone. If you can let that go for three hours, I’d recommend the book. Very interesting, and makes so much sense.

glimpse into the wholeness of archaic paradigms

A measured comparison of the value structures composing very different anthropomorphic paradigms, convincingly suggesting that the former of the title interwove humans within an Earthly cooperative web of plenty, whereas the latter is cleaved from the systems from which we came, thereby propagating a perceived paradigm of scarcity and the resultant culture of fear. A ripe time for such a read.
