Summary

The delightful New York Times best-selling mystery series continues with "another winner" (Austin American-Statesman)!

In this latest installment, prize-winning reporter Jim Qwilleran - along with his lovable Siamese cats, Koko and Yum Yum - solves a mystery that arises when a local banker dies under suspicious circumstances, leaving behind a flashy young widow, an unfinished house-restoration project, and a trail of clues as elusive as a cat burglar in the night....

Critic reviews

"Fans of felines in general and Koko in particular will find this book, the 19th in the Qwilleran series, almost as irresistible as, well, catnip. Some would even say it's purr-fect." (Amazon.com)
"....an accomplished mystery that is as smooth as the season's first snowfall." ( Publishers Weekly)

Another enjoyable tale

Another enjoyable tale about the folk of Pickaxe, laced with gentle irony, and brilliantly narrated bt George Guidall.

Audio clarity is not up to perfect standard...

Once again, another good book of The Cat Who... Series. I'm not going to go into detail about the actual story, but more of the Audible version that I listened to. The Narrator George Guidall is excellent, but at the same time there is a discrepancy that occurs every now and then. For about 20% of the reading, the clarity of voice disappears to sounding as if it's being recorded in a large room, with a bad mic. It is jarring, but thankfully is rare. Yet, at the same time, it ruins the enjoyment of listening to the book.

Otherwise, would still recommend.

Entertaining Story

I'm a fan of "The Cat Who" series. I listen to these stories when I want to relax and escape from reality. There are recurring characters in this series who are slightly quirky, but mostly likable.

During this story, "Qwill" is collecting material for a book of historial stories about the fictional city of Pickaxe. Some of these stories are included in this book. While the stories are somewhat interesting, for me they just slowed the narrative of the main story. That is the reason my "overall" and "story" ratings were four stars rather than five.

George Guidall is excellent, as usual. I have listened to the audio version of these books over and over again. I feel certain I do this because his narration adds so much.

If you have enjoyed other "Cat Who" stories, I believe you will enjoy this one.

Oddly Remastered

Would you listen to another book narrated by George Guidall?

I adore anything narrated by George Guidall and will sometimes pick something just because he's the narrator (though it was a bit odd to hear him to American Gods) however, the remastered version of this audiobook is a bit inconsistent. Every so often it switches from sounding clear and great to being really muffled. Not a huge deal, but a bit annoying.

Any additional comments?

I love the "Cat Who" books and really look forward to listening to more - hopefully audible gets them all eventually.

KoKo Still Reigns Supreme!

Where does The Cat Who Tailed a Thief rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book is so lively and witty and keeps your interest just jumping up and down! I'm not sure if I can rate where this book ranks among all the audiobooks I've listened to so far, but it's a #1 brilliant story, in my opinion.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot was again, lively, quirky and I know I had a smile on my face as I was going about my household chores! Even though this was fiction, if you ever lived in a small, rural town, you could probably find interesting "characters" something like the folks portrayed in this book.

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

To me, George Guidall is the SUPREME MASTER of NARRATORS! Enough said...

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If my personal schedule would have allowed it, I could have listened to it in all one setting.

Any additional comments?

The joy of reading is something I can't do without in this world, and Audible allows me to ridiculously indulge in this guilty pleasure--thanks much, Audible!

Great Book & Narrator, Occasional Poor Audio Qual

I love ALL of Lilian Jackson Braun's, "The Cat Who..." series. This book in the series did not disappoint... except... Audibles audio version is really not very good. In at least 3 places the volume and quality would transition from good to bad, then back to good again. If I didn't love this author and this book series so much, I might not chance purchasing another poor quality audio version in the series from Audible. Also, Audible has so few books in this series available to Audible customers. I know ALL but "Tall Tails..." are available on great quality CD... I love Audible but, come on y'all, you can do better...
