When Meg and Jacob get bitten and someone goes missing, Hawkins realizes that firing up the machine might be the only way to solve the case.

To be honest, I never got to the end of this. It started off well, and there's no doubt the author knows how to create an air of bleak, Lovecraftian menace. However, the plot started to meander a bit, and I just couldn't find the energy to try to follow it. Although I liked the book, in general, I'm still not really sure what it's about.

The Troop was, in my view, a better novel.

The Breach is a wonderful, grim story set in the Yukon with cosmic horror and uncomfortable changes in perception due to weird science. If the blurb caught your attention, it delivers on that potential and then some.
