Summary

The adventure of Brian Parker's dreams has just become a nightmare. While on a school trip to Europe, Brian hopes for just a taste of the glamour and excitement from his favorite spy novels. Yet he gets way more than he bargained for when he stumbles across a wounded spy in a Lucerne alley.

The man's dying words catapult Brian into a desperate chase across the continent. America's latest superweapon is at stake, and everyone from a rogue CIA officer to a sadistic criminal mastermind is after it and Brian. New enemies emerge at every turn, but he soon finds a welcome ally in Larissa, a beautiful French girl who loves the Ramones and is handy with a blast of pepper spray.

Brian faces a deadly path, but reading all those spy novels has taught him a few tricks of the trade. They just might save his life.

I spy with my little eye a great book.

I know this book is aimed at the younger listener but reading the blurb and reviews it sounded interesting and I decided to give it ago. Glad I did because I enjoyed it. I like how the story hardly takes a pause before the story and young hero is off and running, trying to get out of another difficult situation. Any good book worm dreams of finding themselves caught up in there own adventure whether it's a spy novel like James Bond, a case to solve like Nancy Drew or a jungle to explore like Indiana Jones and this author certainly captures the idea and possibility in this story. The story works well for both children or adults because of the great characters and the way Brian has to use his love of reading to out wit the adults. There is plenty of action, mystery, twists, betrayal, humour and even romance. This book has it covered and its all in one great story. Will be keeping an eye out for the authors next book.
Brian is a big fan of spy novels but he never expected to get caught up in one on a school trip to Europe. He witnesses a murder and being the first on the scene he is the only one to hear the finale words from the dying man. The dead man and his colleagues were working on a government prototype that if it got in the wrong hands could be disastrous, as it could be used as a weapon. Brain doesn't trust the man who agrees to chaperone him to a safe house and decides to pass the message on to one of the other scientist. He isn't home but his daughter is and so is the man went to watch her. Brian and Larissa go on the run in a deadly game of cat and mouse. Can they get to her father in time to stop the bad guys from carrying out there plan? Brain will have to use every trick his favourite spy character has taught him through the pages of a book, if be wants to keep them both alive.
I liked the narrator and thought he did some good voices and a few even had French accents.

Breath taking YA action spy story

The Boy Who Knew Too Much By Jeffrey Westhoff
I am always looking for decent YA books for my kids, who are always telling me books are ‘boring’, so imagine my happiness when I was offered a free audio arc (thanks Audioboom) of this amazing, action packed YA spy thriller in return for an honest review.
This story has all the right ingredients – a bold first few chapters to engage the reader (or listener), then a mystery that needs solving and then into full blown action (so vividly described you could see and smell every detail) with every chapter oozing description and mouth-watering spy secrets, as well as a pinch of humour and a blossoming romance. What more could any YA reader want! This is a feast for any YA eyes (and ears).
I was so impressed with the world building, the characters, the thrills and spills, that even I (someone well past the YA stage) couldn’t put it down (or, in my case, stop listening). I loved the way the action travelled and I was going on that journey with Brian and Larissa, seeing through their eyes and being part of their experience. I couldn’t stop reading/listening – so am a hundred percent sure it will work on it’s target audience.
Sadly, there isn’t enough of this type of YA action and adventure novel around at the moment, especially ones with a male protagonist. Here’s hoping Brian Parker manages to get caught up in another spy scenario very soon.
While here I must send a huge shout out to the narrator of this audio book who managed to act out the voices in an engaging way and keep the necessary pace of all the action throughout the novel. Not only was the book superb but the narration was fantastic.
