Excellent, very good wisdom and insight

I came across this by pure chance. I guess this I how it was meant! I've had a different book on druidry for 10 years and found that heavy going as I am not a man of words! So this fantastic work has given me inspiration to take things in the right direction. All because of Joanna's wonderful book. It has great down to earth material, you can take as much or as little from it as you want. Makes perfect sense to me. The potential in whatever you want from this book is truly Awen! Thankyou for this Joanna, you are so generous and real
! The only one thing that didn't quite gel at first was the narration. It was OK in the end once I got used to it. The Welsh prenouncations and plant names for UK audience may not be what you are used to. If you are American or Canadian then, happy days. Awesome thanks.

More than underwhelming

I've bought this book based on Amazon reviews. I wish I concentrated more on negative reviews because now I find them absolutely correct. The amount of positive reviews is truly shocking. This book was underwhelming in every possible way, a total waste of money and time.

The narrator's tone wasn't captivating at all, but even a different narrator wouldn't help this book in any way. Van Der Hoeven is simply not a wordsmith. If you have read/listened to life-changing books by naturally gifted storytellers such as Sharon Blackie, you'll know what I'm talking about. There are words and sentences, but they don't flow together, they don't form an organic narrative, they don't speak to one's soul. It all felt like listening to someone narrating a series of very basic Wikipedia articles.

All the info given is on that basic Wikipedia level, with plenty of historically and archaeologically incorrect information that start already in introduction and first chapter. As someone who is both a pagan and an archaeologist, that is a red line that makes a book lose any plausibility for me. Nothing in this book is about druidry, at best it's a very typical New Age, Wiccan mishmash with a bit of druid/Celtic taste sprinkled on top of it. Sticking a druid label on random things doesn't make them druid. Every Irish and Scottish native would probably get fits from this book.

If you have ever read anything on the Celts, traditional or modern witchcraft or magic, and especially if you have read any scholarly work or are a scholar yourself, just avoid this book.

An Absolute Must Have!

Most enjoyable, informative and entertaining book well worthy of being in my collection. I rate it as one of the best books a lone practitioner of Druidry could have. It is loaded with ideas and practices and very rare for me will be visited time and time again in my practice. Joanna has really exceeded in relaying teachings on the subject in this book. One of the best!!!

Poor narrator

This is a fairly good book on the subject matter, but listeners should be warned that the narrator butchers the pronunciation of even the more common words you’ll encounter in this sort of material. It’s bizarre and almost inexcusable that no one with oversight on the production of the audiobook couldn’t be bothered to provide the narrator with a pronunciation guide or review the recording after the fact to discover that so many things were mispronounced. I’d definitely recommend the print version of this book, but the narrators mispronunciations are so prominent and frequent that it distracts from the material in the audio version

Excellent book - horrible narrator

Hedge Druidry is filled with great information. Van der Hoeven tells a great story . Thought-provoking comments are found throughout the entire book. The writing is clear, scholarship sound, and the concepts are very well explained. Unfortunately the narrator drove me bonkers. Uncorrected mispronunciations litter the book. I'm not talking about the difficult Celtic words though after about the 20th mispronunciation of SamHain I had to skip chapter 6 on the Wheel of the Year, I'm referring to English words and Anglo names. I don't know who produced this mess, but their standards were not very high.

It's okay

Outside of the horrible pronunciations of words, the narrator's voice sounds like she was telling a fairytale instead of it being a guide. She lost my attention when she said that no one knows where the date of December 25th came from. The author should have done her homework. If she did, she would have found that date correlates to Sol Invictus who was - as the Roman tale goes - born on that day.

If you're looking for a beginners book this is fine.

Overall a great read and listen; informative.

**Narration has been updated!**

This book has been recently re-recorded and the mispronunciations have been corrected. Overall, the book is informative and a pleasant listen. I've played through it a few times and have found more than a few passages to go back and highlight.

Amazing source of reference

I have listened to this book several times now and have also purchased the accompanying books. What a gem it truly is. I love the narrator except for the pronunciation of anything with -ation at the end of the word.

Brilliant

Absolutely brilliant. Author has a lot of knowledge and this is the perfect book for people who want to practice alone or with a community. Also perfect for those who want to worship a deity or not. I found the narrator to be clear and pleasant to listen to. I think this is a very, very good book for anyone wanting to delve into a spiritual nature based practice. I bought the kindle, audible and will now purchase the print copy.

great book!

I have been on a pagan path for more than 30 years and still found this book to be informative and inspiring. While I do not agree with every single detail for my own path, it is worth a listen... or read, if you prefer.
