About this listen
The Black Moon is the fifth novel in Winston Graham's hugely popular Poldark series, which has become a television phenomenon starring Aidan Turner.
Cornwall 1794. The birth of a son to Elizabeth and George Warleggan serves only to accentuate the rift between the Poldark and Warleggan families. And when Morwenna Chynoweth, now governess to Elizabeth’s eldest son, grows to love Drake Carne, Demelza’s brother, the enduring rivalry between George and Ross finds a new focus for bitter enmity and conflict.
The Black Moon is followed by the sixth book in the Poldark series, The Four Swans.
Critic reviews
Gripping and very interesting

As the series moved on, the historic, social, cultural and political backdrop becomes increasingly enriched. I've found myself checking out multiple threads from the story line; e.g Pitt, Wilberforce, the French Revolution, Napoleon (The Four Swans), the history of currency (The Four Swans - introduction of paper currency) etc. The series is proving to be a rounded educational stimulus as well as a darned good dramatic romp!
Inspiring an interest in European History

There was a little too time spent on the French and their internal politics for me but the happy outcome for Dwite was worth it.
Overall I felt the purpose of this installment of the saga was to introduce new characters - Drake & Morwennan - and to position others for future intrigue. Good old Aunt Agatha gets the last word with George, putting the cat amongst the pigeons with her final retaliation after he spoils her attempt at one last fling! He really should have let her have her moment of glory and let her finally be the center if attention. Instead the vindictive and bullying nature of his character is unmistakably portrayed by his actions.
I look forward to the next installment which I hope includes more of Ross and Demelza's relationship as I did miss this in this book.
A slow continuation of the story
