About this listen

Most Americans — and people worldwide — understand that despite our remarkable technological advances, something is deeply wrong with the direction of our country and world. There are a variety of causes but Mr. Lepard believes, and wrote this book because, too many are missing the one, principal underlying cause: The Money Is Broken.

Through his own personal story, and tracing the history of how we find ourselves in this condition, he explains in layman’s terms what happened, why it is wrong, and how we can fix it.

This book addresses the pressing issues of inflation and wealth inequality and points out that we do not need to suffer with these ills. It is a call to action for people of all ages and political persuasions. Sound money and personal freedoms are what built the America, that post-World War II, was widely admired and stood at the pinnacle of the world. Sadly, we have drifted away from the principles that took us there.

The book also discusses today’s investment climate, the threats that savers face, and the likely path of markets over the next decade. There is a warning here. There will be winners and losers. The monetary transition engulfing us will create enormous changes, but we have many reasons for optimism. New technological developments and trends are taking us to a much better world.

Understanding our monetary system is the key to solving today's global challenges. This book reveals why our future depends on one critical mission:

I've never been quite so disappointed by an audiobook, and it is not the fault of the author. The reading of this text is absolutely awful. a hammy, cinema trailer "COMING SOOOON TO A CINEMAAAA NEEER YOOOUUU" voice is so jarring, I couldn't make it through. Hours upon hours of it. I'd much rather have heard Larry read it through, than this dreadful performance. A five star book, with a one star reading.

A fantastic book, ruined by a hammy reading

Laurence Lepard’s “The Big Print” is a compelling and timely audiobook for anyone bewildered by the current state of the global financial system. Lepard offers a clear, insightful, and often alarming diagnosis of the "mess" we find ourselves in, meticulously detailing how decades of inflationary policies and monetary manipulation have eroded wealth and rigged the game against the average person.

For much of the book, Lepard's analysis is both credible and valuable. He has a talent for translating complex economic concepts into understandable narratives, making the intricate problems of fiat currency and central banking accessible to a wide audience. He masterfully outlines the problem, painting a stark picture of a system creaking under the weight of its own unsustainability.

Where the book may divide listeners, however, is in its exploration of solutions. The final chapters pivot hard towards Bitcoin, presenting it as the primary, if not sole, antidote to the financial malaise. While the case for Bitcoin is made with passion and conviction, this focus feels overly narrow. It’s a shame that a book so thorough in its analysis of the problem should be so Bitcoin-heavy in its conclusion, largely ignoring the potential of other significant digital assets and protocols, such as XRP, which also aim to address flaws in the global payments landscape.

Despite this "Bitcoin maximalist" lens in its final act, "The Big Print" remains a highly recommended listen. It provides an essential and credible insight into the critical challenges facing our monetary system, even if you are left feeling that its proposed solutions only tell part of the story.

A Valuable Diagnosis, A Narrow Prescription

I’m about halfway through The Big Print. While the content is fantastic, I’m increasingly unsure whether I’ll actually make it to the end of the audiobook.

My struggle is entirely with the narration. I have misophonia, and the narrator’s delivery triggers it constantly. He speaks in that soft, breathy style straight out of what I can only call the whispering school of Nicole Kidman - a tone that some listeners might find intimate, but for me is a sensory landmine.

And then there are the quote gimmicks. The narrator switches into a gimmicky tone and accent every time he reads one. Instead of clarifying who’s speaking, it pulls me out of the flow with exaggerated emphasis and theatrical delivery. It feels more like a performance trick than something that serves the material. At this point, I feel like that José Mourinho meme - the one where he removes his headphones in disgust. That’s me! Every single time a quote begins!

Please Lord, grant me the strength to endure this narrator. My choices now are simple: either a chemical intervention or buying a hardcopy.

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of Lawrence Leonard’s audio book.
He’s been one of my favourite guests to listen to whenever he’s on a podcast so when I heard about his book I couldn’t wait to give it a listen.
The scope and depth of the book surpassed all my expectations. An engaging listening full of knowledge and facts gleamed from a sound money advocate that’s spent decades in the thick of it.
Very much recommended!

Surpassed my expectations.
