This collection of short stories feels rather dated and both of its longest stories were too long for what they were. The author places far more emphasis on her protagonist’s inner thoughts and reactions than on external events so these stories feel quite claustrophobic sometimes. The narrator’s accent was buzzy in some places and shrill in others. But despite these shortcomings the book is quietly interesting worth a credit.
