About this listen

This is Limmy’s second book.

It’s a whole load of new, odd, and hilariously grim short stories.

Tom is in a soft play with his daughters. He’s bored. He’s so bored he can move things with his mind.

A man fills up a mate’s biscuit tin without ever telling him, to see what happens.

Maggie’s boyfriend Iain bought a curtain. It keeps attacking them. She wants it out the house.

A man is sitting in his wheelie bin at two in the morning, and he wants to tell you why.

Kenny’s mate Scott is suicidal and ridden with guilt. Kenny takes him on holiday to Benidorm. It’ll be some laugh.

Where does That's Your Lot rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Comedy-wise it was good.

What was one of the most memorable moments of That's Your Lot?

The final story was my favourite but it would be unfair to give away plot lines.

What does Limmy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Definitely the accent. I categorise this alongside the Alan Partridge and Steven Toast audiobooks in the sense that it really has to be in the characters voice, especially when it comes to sound effects.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Listened across two days but likely would have listened in one if I hadn't started it so late the day before. Saying which, with all of the paranoid inner monologue and surrealism, perhaps I was better spreading it out like I did.

A good follow up

I've read Limmy's autobiography and his Daft Wee Stories book and I absolutely loved his perspective on life and his understanding of the dark inner workings of the Glasgow psyche. With this book I feel like his style is getting more and more refined. I can imagine a lot of people being triggered af by his work but I love that. I would go as far as saying he has created his own Black Mirror-esque universe of dark, humorous tales but his personal edge is that they all feel very real and relatable. Each story contains a glimmer of truth which is enough to get you interested in it no matter how wacky each story gets. I hope he continues to build upon his work in whatever way that happens in the future. The only thing I would caution other readers of, is don't go into this expecting pure comedy and punch lines. Expect tragedy and realism and to have things mirrored back to you about daily life. That in itself is where the humour lies.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Sure, because I have other Limmy fan friends.

If you’ve listened to books by Limmy before, how does this one compare?

I thought the stories in his previous book were funnier, what's the point in writing a story that doesn't make sense if it's not funny? Quite a few of the ones here just weren't funny.

What does Limmy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His voice and pronunciation, saying it how it was supposed to be said.

Any additional comments?

Though I didn't LOVE this, I did like it and I do love the printed version that he signed for me. I'm a big Limmy fan and will continue to be.

I love Limmy... I didn't LOVE this...
