Interesting Story
- By Mrs. E. J. Curtis on 24-07-21
Summary
Lieutenant Connor Morgan of SFPD’s SWAT division wasn’t looking for love. Especially not in a man. His life plan didn’t include one Forest Ackerman, a brown-eyed, blond drummer who’s as sexy as he is trouble. His family depends on him to be like his father, a solid pillar of strength who’ll one day lead the Morgan clan.
No, Connor has everything worked out - a career in law enforcement, a nice house, and a family. Instead, he finds a murdered man while on a drug raid and loses his heart comforting the man’s adopted son. It wasn’t like he’d never thought about men - it’s just loving one doesn’t fit into his plans.
Forest Ackerman certainly doesn’t need to be lusting after a straight cop, even if Connor Morgan is everywhere he looks, especially after Frank’s death. He’s just talked himself out of lusting for the brawny cop when his coffee shop becomes a war zone and Connor Morgan steps in to save him.
Whoever killed his father seems intent on Forest joining him in the afterlife. As the killer moves closer to achieving his goal, Forest tangles with Connor Morgan and is left wondering what he’ll lose first - his life or his heart.

Another great Rhys Ford book
I enjoyed both the story and Tristan James' narration which, put together, made for a very enjoyable listening experience. Humerous bits in the book which made me smile when read, made me grin when they were narrated as Tristan gave the dialogue that little extra boost. It was great to revisit some of the other characters again - Miki and Donal especially - and I'm looking forward to listening to the next book in the series. (Although I have a few Rhys Ford books in my TBT (To Be Listened to) Library so I'm a bit spoilt for choice)
I woukd recommend this for a bit of murder-mystery, romance & family solidarity with humour as well as the serious stuff. For the full experience, listen to them in order although it's not strictly necessary.

**AUDIO REVIEW**
I LOVE this series, and it gets better and better! This is Connor's story, the eldest of the Morgan Clan, and also the straightest. He has plans, career, house, wife, children. In that order. But meeting Forest, the adopted son of a murdered music shop owner, throws all that out the window, and Connor is knocked off his plan in a most stunning way!
I love Rhys Ford, and all the books of her's I've "read" have been in audio, and I dont want wo go off in the middle of a series and switch from reading to listening, so all three (still got the novella to do yet) main books in this series have been listened to.
Ford spins a tale like no other, it has romance, drama, sex, violence, funny bits and almost make you cry bits. And this book has them all, all wrapped up in 9 hours of superb narration from Tristan James. That man could read the phone book, and make it sound so darn good!
Connor is the eldest Morgan and as such feels he sound follow in his fathers footsteps. THATS why, meeting Forest, falling in love with him, throws Connor off so much. He feels like he is going to let his Da down. And that comes across in such a sweet but painful way in the scene that Da and Connor talk. (more on Da and Ma shortly!!) This book is told from both Connor and Forest's POV, and I do love it when the main characters tell what they need to. You get all the dilemma that Connor has, flipping to the raging attraction that they both feel, flipping to the pain Forest feels about his "Mother"(and I use the term loosely!) We dont get anything from the baddie here, as we did in Whiskey and Wry, but its not missed, and whodunnit is not revealed until quite late.
I sooooooooooooo love that we get some Kane/Miki and some Damien/Sionn and all the rest of the Clan Morgan :-)
Tristan James has narrated all three of this series, and he does a sterling job. He keeps his tone even, and clear, even during the difficult scenes, those with intense emotion. Since he did do the others, and all the characters from those books, plus we meet Kiki, a younger sister, appear in this one, the voices are all the same, and clear and distinct.
I know there are two more books planned, one with the younger brother, Quinn, and then back to Kane/Miki but I would so love, I mean absolutely LOVE if Ma and Da had a story. I love them, they are such beautiful people and they love all their children, partners and extended families equally.
5 stars for the story, and 5 stars for the narration

Luck of the Oirish....
Would you consider the audio edition of Tequila Mockingbird to be better than the print version?
I have purchased both, but not actually gotten around to the reading the text versions in full yet. I don't think you can honestly compare the two on equal ground - the text version is my own interpretation and the audio, inevitably, is someone else's. I've enjoyed both equally, but for different reasons.
What did you like best about this story?
The characters, the chance to revisit other stories and plot lines and the balance between essential detail and filler in the narrative. The author does a great job of balancing everything.
What does Tristan James bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
I am so sorry but the DEPLORABLE Oirish accents employed over the entire series. I come from an Irish family and, no, just no. Hysterically he even manages to use different regional accents and inflections for members of the same family (the vast majority of which are American natives and not of Irish birth) when he switches characters and sometimes get them confused. This irritated me in the first book, but once I got over myself and relaxed into the performance then it became nothing more than a fond amusement over the course of time. At least with a text version I can just ignore badly written or constructed accents on the page, the audio version made me work for it.
Still worth it though!
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Not What He Wanted, But Everything He Needed...
Any additional comments?
Despite the narrator's Irish accents this series of books is a great listen and well worth your credits. He's entertaining, engaging and generally a joy to listen to. He does a great job of switching between characters and building the tension for the action scenes. Nothing ever feels rushed and you get swept long by the story brilliantly. The stories themselves are a little OTT in terms of characterisations (The matriach of the family for instance) but I have them in my head as a gay version of the MacGregor family beloved of Nora Roberts readers so forgave the OTT in this regard. The author is very talented and spins a good tale and if you want good old fashioned escapism and entertainment then I can't recommend this series enough. Text or audio you won't be disappointed!

Love Comes Calling
If you could sum up Tequila Mockingbird in three words, what would they be?
Brilliant romantic thriller
What did you like best about this story?
Without doubt the blossoming love between the two main characters, and all the twists and turns that ensued.
What about Tristan James’s performance did you like?
A brilliant narrator who really brought the characters to life
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Sinfully delicious!
Any additional comments?

Best of the series to date, in my opinion.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Oh hell yes! Between the writing and the narration it is one of the best series in the genre right now.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Connor Morgan, of course. The way he loves Forest, the terms of endearment and emotion he puts behind that love is absolutely amazing.
Which character – as performed by Tristan James – was your favorite?
Again, Connor Morgan. James takes Fords words and turns them into something solid with all the characters, but Connor is just another level.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes it was, had to split it up over two days though.
Any additional comments?
*** Updated December 21, 2014 to include both e-book and audio reviews ***
Tams e-book review from May 2014…
Conner Morgan is the eldest of the eight Morgan children and with that, he holds himself to a higher standard. He feels the burden of having to project a certain persona to everyone because of who his father is. Everything he thought he was is about to be called into question on his latest case. When one blonde haired, brown eyed, barefoot musician barrels into his life.
Forest Ackerman has had a very hard life. Used, abused and tossed out like trash by his own mother... unless she needed something from him, of course. He was saved by a man who saw the innocence of a child that needed to be protected. Forest found solace in his drums and the studio his dad owned, until an explosion tears his world apart and throws him right into the arms of a large, in charge and sex on a stick Irish cop. Conner Morgan.
Both men struggle with the attraction from the start, sort of. Forest doesn’t want to fall for a straight guy, but said straight guy keeps showing up at the coffee shop Forest works at, every day, making him impossible to ignore. And I don’t think Conner struggled so much with his attraction to Forest, as he did with this persona he had created for himself and a fear of not being what he thought his family wanted him to be.
After the initial explosion and the coffee shop bombing and then the hit and run, Conner finally admits his feelings for Forest. And once Forest is released from the hospital, Conner doesn’t give him much choice but to stay with him. So Forest gets a crash course in Morgan family politics 101 before these two even have a chance to define their relationship. Now this alone would send most men running, screaming and searching for the nearest EXIT. But not Forest. I think Brigid Morgan, the spitfire pixie matriarch of the Morgan clan, nails it when she tells Forest that his mother simply gave birth to him for her, for Brigid, that he was hers now. And unlike Mickey, Forest relishes the attention.
There was a lot more interaction with various members of the Morgan clan in this book, and I loved that. Classic Rhys Ford with drama, suspense, a mountain of bodies, a psycho killer and some hot, steamy, sweaty gay man sex dripping off of every page! I love the Irish and Gaelic terms that are used throughout this series and the strength of the family unit that is the Morgans. Every last one of them is fiercely loyal, stubborn, outspoken, full of piss and vinegar and carry an exorbitant amount of love.
Yes, if I really need to say it, this is a must read. You must read them in order as well to appreciate the Morgan family as a whole. As well as Mickey/Sinjin and Damien/Damie who it looks like will be staring up a new band, now that they found themselves a drummer. They just need a bass player. Oh, wait, Sionn’s best friend Rafe is a bass player. And this story ended with Quinn Morgan making his way up that tree!
Tams Audio review addition from December…
It is such a joy to listen to an Audio of a book I’ve already read, and find something new within the story. The relationship between Connor and Forest was so much more powerful when the characters were given a voice. To “hear” Connor call Forest a ghrá with so much emotion behind the word added even more depth to this story for me. Don’t get me wrong, Ford did a great job of conveying emotions with the written version and I devoured that copy. But to hear the strain in Connor’s voice when he is calling out to Forest after the bombing, to hear the love in his voice when he uses the Irish Gaelic term of endearment, hell, to hear the struggle in Forest’s voice as he slowly falls in love with his big, brooding, Irish cop, it was a thing of beauty.
Narrated by Tristan James who is fluent in the Irish brogue that is the Morgan Clan. And you will never be confused as to which Morgan is talking at the time, he has mastered the art of nuance and tone inflections so you always know when there is a shift in character. If you are like me and love to put a voice with the words on paper, then you are really going to get a treat with this one.
This is one of the best M/M series you can get your hands on right now, written by a well rounded author and narrated by a talented story teller. Definitely a must read and/or listen, but either way you chose to experience these stories, do so in order or you won’t understand a lot of what is happening from one book to the next. While each story is for a different couple, the core of the stories is a continuation of the characters relationships and how they develop as a whole.

Just gets better and better
I want to be a Morgan. I love this series. There are only a few books I will buy the ebook and the audio and this is one of them. This is the 3rd book in the series and Connor Morgan's story. And be still my heart, Tristan James' voice!! My god the man could melt a glacier just with his voice. This story is a GFY as until Connor met Forest, he thought he was straight. But he adjusts his thinking with the help of his amazing family. Forest comes from an abusive childhood and was saved by a pot smoking hippy. Now his childhood demons are trying to kill him and Connor is determine to protect him at all costs. Good stuff all around with the trademark Rhys Ford body count.
I love all the MCs in this series, but I seriously want Donal and Bridget to adopt me, I don't care that I'm in my 40s. There seems to be at least one more book in this series and I look forward to it. But I really look forward if Tristan James continues to narrate it. Sooooo worth a credit.

Gimmie Gimmie More Sin...
I cannot get enough of the Sinner series. Rhys is Fantastic !!!
*spoilers ahead*
As the end of Book 2 indicated, This book-- book 3-- focuses on Conner, the oldest Morgan brother, who is struggling with the reality of veering off his very well planned life path. What makes this such an exceptional read is that most of what he experiences, and talks about is very real, and overall very difficult. It takes a LOT of strength and a confident sense of self to defy societal and familial expectations. But if anyone can do it, the Morgan brothers can.
What I love most about this book was the reality of coming to terms with falling for someone so far from your expectations. I think love transcends gender so,I didn't blink an eye, but I loved how Rhys emphasized how scared Conner was to be a disappointment to his family for not carrying out the (hetero) life he believed his family-- most importantly his dad-- expected of him. As is typically the case with the Sinner series, Connor and Forest don't go riding off into the sunset, as usual, we readers are drawn into some type of murder mystery that the Morgan clan helps investigate.
I knew where Rhys was going with this series by book 2, and since I have no qualms about speaking my mind.... I will tell you... Her Sinner's series is about re-birth and re-discovery. Therefore, the new lives that Miki, Damien, and now Forest have with the Morgan clan will allow them and of course (book 4's tortured musician) Raif to come together and re-create a band similar to that of the original Sinner's Gin band.I love each and every one of those soulful and strong musicians, and I welcome more glimpses into their lives.
Oh and lines like this don't hurt either...
" Hey... just the guy I'm looking for... I needed to ask you a question.... I kind of need to lose my virginity, and I was kinda wondering if you could help me out."
Seriously? Seriously? Rhys keeps me coming back for more Sin. Book 4 is on my MUST GET NOW LIST... And after reading this (book 3) and of course Books 1 and 2... it is sure to be on yours.
FANTASTIC READ!!! Credit or Cash... get it!!!

Story is better, sound is DEPLORABLE
As I've mentioned before, I'm not a fan so far of the series, even though there are a couple other of Ford's series which I love and listen to often. However, since I had purchased the series several years ago, I figure it's time to push through and listen to them all.
Con and Forrest's story I liked a little better than the other two - but I'm seeing part of the reason I don't like the series - INSTA LOVE. Except for paranormal 'mate' type stories, I cannot handle the concept. It's a whole ball of "That can't last". But, that said, I actually enjoyed their overall story more than the previous two. It flowed better. Plus, I liked seeing a bit more of Con's mother.
Now, that said, it was totally ruined for me by the deplorable sound editing that went on. I've heard in other non-professionally edited audiobooks where the narrator has to redo a part and so the sound shifts - but that usually only happens a couple times. This was constant - I'm talking constant. Back and forth between the professional sound of a fully edited audiobook and unprofessional patched in part. Back and forth. Back and forth. I almost stopped listening a few times because it was THAT ANNOYING. Quite honestly, I don't understand why this audiobook wasn't pulled and sent back to the publisher to have the editing redone. Because it's completely non-professional. If I were Tristan James or Rhys Ford, I'd be unhappy at having my work maligned in such a way.
It's a shame, really, that the sound was so bad given this is the first of the series I almost liked. Maybe I'll get hold of the ebook instead.

I could listen all day!!!!
The narration is so good. My only problem is that he doesn’t pitch the voices at all. They are all the same. But his accents are so so good! I enjoyed this book a lot. Connor is a super sweetheart and we get more of his mom too. I like her and how she wants to mother all of the “boys”.

I love the Morgan family!
This series is awesome. Forest and Connor's story is another great adventure. What a hell of a ride. This family just keep on giving. It is excitement at its best. And the love scenes are totally hot and steamy. What a suspenseful, mystery, thriller, narrated by Tristan James. I highly recommend. ENJOY!

GREAT SERIES!
Most enjoyable. Kept me up the whole night through. The love story between Forest Ackerman and Connor Morgan is beautiful. Action as always fast paced and the problem they encountered is terrible. Forest's young life was horrible. His mother is a bitch! How could she treat her son like that is heartbreaking. Very good plot and the performance/narration by Tristan James is excellent. Rhys Ford is a very talented writer and I hope she will keep on writing for a long, long time.

I think my fav of this series so far
Well, I am not sure its my favorite. The first one was good and this one was kind of a tie.
Even though the series is a bit formulaic, as most series are, each story is unique. When I listened to the first book, I thought, I probably should have just bought the kindle version of it because I read too fast to really enjoy how slow I felt the story was moving audio wise. But, here I am finishing book 3 and just purchased book 4. I can't seem to get enough of this series.
I do have to wonder though. Is there going to be a psycho killer in every story? Asking for a friend. Lol. Anyway, reading these stories are kind of like looking at episodes of Criminal minds with some romance thrown in. You are like, well dang, who is the killer and why are they so cray cray for no reason.
Great writing. I love the Morgan family. Tristan was good as usual with only a small bit of choppiness in the performance. At one point, I think I was confused if it was the same story. I guess I just figured there was something wrong with the audiobook itself. It happens. It was still a great listen.
The one thing I have to say about the way this author writes the characters like Mikki, Damien and Forest. They are not portrayed as being automatically fixed by love. They still have their issues and things that plague them. They are written so real to me.
ok. on to the next book
