About this listen

Faerie godfathers are supposed to help young ladies find love. Unfortunately, no one told Lord Blackthorn that.

Effie has most inconveniently fallen in love with the dashing Mr Benedict Ashbrooke. There's only one problem: Effie is a housemaid, and a housemaid cannot marry a gentleman. It seems that Effie is out of luck until she stumbles into the faerie realm of Lord Blackthorn, who is only too eager to help Effie win Mr Ashbrooke's heart. All he asks in return is that Effie sew ten thousand stitches onto his favourite jacket.

Effie has heard rumours about what happens to those who accept help from faeries, but life as a maid at Hartfield is so awful that she is willing to risk even her immortal soul for a chance at something better. Now, she has one hundred days—and ten thousand stitches—to make Mr Ashbrooke fall in love and propose...if Lord Blackthorn doesn't wreck things by accident, that is.

From the author of Half a Soul comes a whimsical faerie tale set in a magical version of Regency England, with an enchanting Cinderella twist.

I was stuck after the first charter! Lively, sad, happy, wonderful. . . . .

amazing Fairytale!

a light and fluffy story with a generally cute dynamic between the MC and love interests, with an enjoyable cast of side characters. a little silly, and on the simple side of things. i would have personally liked a bit more complexity in the main relationships, but i feel like it never wanted to be the sort of book you go to for anything but a comfort read, so good job lol

3.8 for my tastes, but definitely accomplished what it wants to be (cute and fluffy)

There were times I wasn't sure about this book but I persevered and it was well worth it and has a very satisfying end. A suitable follow on from Half a Soul. Go read that first, it's lovely and then read the short stories between.

Very Satisfying

There were many elements of this book I liked, but lots dragged too. I’ll still get more by this author though.

It was ok

I was expecting this to be a romance but it was actually a social justice story about mistreated servants, which is fine but I wish it hadn't been implied it's a romance. there is actually an attempt at romance but it's very lateral to the main plot, the emotion isn't there,I don't know why they like each other, and they have the chemistry of a cheese and a piece of string. the romance has very weak turning points, in that she (the POV) just gets to find out he's not a villain (shockingly low bar), and then there's an actual confession at the end, which was very necessary since probably the beta readers also asked "how come these two are in love?" the two in question literally tell each other the reasons why they love each other in the last 10 minutes, which is very lucky because they're not in the actual story. those reasons are extremely cerebral, and again a shockingly low bar. if you want chemistry and clever dialogue, this isn't the book for you. I gave 3* because it was interesting enough to finish and didn't annoy me that much.

unromantic romance
