About this listen

For the whole of human history, we have lived alongside birds. We have hunted and domesticated them for food; venerated them in our mythologies, religion and rituals; exploited them for their natural resources; and been inspired by them for our music, art and poetry.

In Ten Birds That Changed the World, naturalist and author Stephen Moss tells the gripping story of this long and eventful relationship through ten key species from all seven of the world's continents. From Odin's faithful raven companions to Darwin's finches, and from the wild turkey of the Americas to the emperor penguin as potent symbol of the climate crisis, this is a fascinating, eye-opening and endlessly engaging work of natural history.

This was a very well presented and narrated audio book.
I learnt such a lot from each of the 10 birds that have changed our world.
Alternatively, it is a very worrying message of what we have done to our world.
I trust we will now act on this message regarding the climate emergency now.
Food for much thought.
Recommended listening.

Absolutely loved this book, learnt so much and was fascinated by the stories, history, and interwoven politics linked to certain bird species. Such a brilliant book, very highly recommended. 🙏📚

This is a very informative listen but also makes me feel terrible for being a human.

Yes it’s true ,the human race has slowly been killing the planet and everything on it since the dawn of time but I don’t necessarily want to hear all the grim details while eating my lunch at work.

This book should come with a trigger warning.
It’s pretty dark at points and will almost definitely leave the reader feeling guilt for the wrong doings of our ancestors.
If you have ever eaten foul of any kind you will also be disturbed by the section all about foul and how bad it is for you.

Can’t say I would recommend it based on how it left me feeling afterwards as I wouldn’t want anyone else feeling that way.
