About this listen

Bastian Bishop. That's his name.

He's rough, rugged, and utterly unpredictable.

Silent and steady one second, and a nightmare the next.

He's an outsider and in my world outsiders don't belong. But he doesn't seem to care.

After one night of reckless rebellion, the tattooed tyrant keeps coming back, sneaking into my world without permission, and causing trouble I can't allow.

I should end it before my father discovers my existence and does it for me. But Bastian says, like it or not... I am his now, that nothing and no one will stand in his way.

What he refuses to understand is I'm a Girl of Greyson, a coveted queen of sorts in the underground crime world. He's a nobody with nothing to his name. We could never be.

Or so I thought I did, until betrayal burns so deep that suddenly nothing makes sense.

Nothing but him...

This wasn't a bad book, but if I'm being honest, I had no clue what happened there. I was so confused by the end with all the different reveals that I just couldn't keep up. The character's were okay but I was getting really frustrated with them and the way they would act in certain situations and with each other, would just give me weird vibes. Like I said it's not a bad book and you can tell the plot has been well thought out to be able to make all those reveals and connections, but it just wasn't for me.

A bit baffled

Rocklin (I'm not a fan of this name🙈) and Bass make an absolutely smoking hot couple from the minute they set eyes on each other, and she becomes his little thief.😉

It was a shame the pace felt so sluggish. I enjoyed a lot of the world building, but some of the intricacies seemed almost pointless to the storyline and really slowed the pace down.😔 I didn't have an issue with the amount of violence. The possessiveness on display was welcomed, so that was great too.🥵

The narrators did a good job. The male was especially passionate.😉🔥

As with all Meagan Brandy books you feel like you’ve been dropped into the middle on an ongoing story - and in some ways you have as this book is linked to the Brayshaw series - but if you read that some time ago and your memory isn’t what it used to be, then be prepared to be a bit confused. A lot seems familiar but it isn’t really as the only link to Brayshaw is Bastion Bishop. It’s very similar to Brayshaw in that we have a Council and pacts, and bad people doing bad things but it is mostly a new set of characters in a new place.

The plot is convoluted and you really need to keep your whits about you otherwise you are going to get lost. There’s a lot going on, a lot of characters who initially are barely mentioned and then become key to the plot. People aren’t necessarily who they seem and things are going on in the background that are merely hinted at that later become important. It’s defonitely a ride, is somewhat ridiculous at times, but is nonetheless entertaining.

The central romance between Bastion and Rocklyn (and yes all the names are silly) is engaging, even though she’s a bit irritating at times (she’s in charge apparently but then constantly defers to her dad *eye roll* ) and the side characters aren’t merely decoration. The “big bad” keeps changing and is somewhat fluid, and I’d have liked the big bad(s) to have been a bit bigger and a bit badder, and not quite so easily dispatched. We pay brief visits to the Brayshaw world, and although they were nostalgic, I’m not sure they were necessary.

The narrators were great, Alex was hot as heck as Bastion, and Savannah was as usual great as Rocklyn. Would have been better as a duet.

All in all a great listen - as long as you don’t take it that seriously or dig too earnestly for holes.

Ridiculous but entertaining
