Summary

When writer Rob Fallon goes out one night and ends up with his best-friend's girlfriend, Jenny, he's feeling guilty before anything's even happened. But guilt quickly turns to shock when two men break into Jenny's apartment, abduct her and try to kill Rob.

When Rob reports this to the police, no one believes him. And when he speaks to Jenny's father, he says she's on holiday abroad. Rob knows Jenny's life's in danger and starts asking questions. Soon he's the target of brutal killers who are as terrifying as they are elusive.

But what do they want? And what does it have to do with an ordinary girl like Jenny? Either Rob finds out or he's dead. It's that simple....

Target by Simon Kernick

Absolutely outstanding - a riveting listen - a high octane crime story with breathtaking twists and turns. One of the best of the 40 or so audio books of this genre that I have listened to whilst out walking or driving over the last 12 months. Mike Bolt and Tina Boyd at their very best. Also brilliantly read. I will definitely buy more by this author.

Smashing

I have enjoyed all of Simon Kernick's books, but this might be my favourtie. The narrator is brilliant.

A little confusing at times

Overall, this was a great story. There were a couple of confusing/sketchy escapes by the main Villain that didn’t sit well with me.

My main issue was with one of the main characters. He was narrated in the first person. It was I said this and I did that etc. It was like the story was being told from his point of view. He was then killed. This really didn’t sit well with me. It didn’t make sense. It threw the whole story.

Having said that, I have never had a best seller or had a book published. I am not even a writer so, what do I know.

Excellent Thriller

I have read all of Simon Kernick's books and this is just as good and very well narrated. Not too complicated but still a page turner.

compelling but too many gratuitous deaths

It starts with a very disturbing murder and I almost finished there and then but the performance kept me going. it improved considerably and I grew very fond of the leading characters, the onesbon the right side of the law. The story remained compelling throughout but was also terribly sad in places and I still have a feeling of remorse for some characters and pity for others. I have now ordered some more books from this author and will continue with him for some time.

Time's skills stops Hookies kills.

Interesting switches from first person to third person in this fast moving misadventure from Master Simon Kernick. Good to have Tina Boyd back, no wonder she drinks, with the desperate scrapes she gets into. Little bit far fetched but well thought out and we'll read by Paul Thornley.

Thrilling and competently told

'Target' opens in a thrilling way and continues at breakneck speed, through kidnaps, car chases, gangsters and terrorist plots. Good narration. Very exciting and I regularly wondered how the main protagonists were going to 'get out of this one'. Surprising in parts, too. I also enjoyed 'Relentless' by Simon Kernick and I'll definitely be looking for the author's other work.
