About this listen
If you were 99 years old and on your deathbed and were given a chance to come back to today, what would you do right now?
Matt Dahlia was a recent college grad with no direction in his life: his business was dead on arrival and all his friends had left town. He was broke and searching for belonging in a world that didn’t understand him. That is, until he serendipitously met Thomas, who not only felt the same way he did, but had a project in mind: Together, along with two more like-minded strangers, they were going to move into a one-bedroom apartment and film themselves doing 30 things they had never done before in 30 days.
That summer project changed their lives forever: it pushed them out of their comfort zones, bonded them for life, and allowed them to reach a wide audience online. Their journey would eventually become Yes Theory, a massive movement of millions of people living by the philosophy of seeking discomfort.
In this memoir, Matt reveals the extreme highs and lows of Yes Theory, sharing his own along the way. This is a story about the sacrifices it takes to make a dream come true, what happens when a small group of friends suddenly have the attention of millions of strangers online, and what it means to say goodbye when everything seems to be going so well.
But most of all, it’s a reminder to ask yourself that most important question: what do you want out of life?

Only thing which is negative to me: it could have been much longer.
Great story from a great human being.

Being happy in you life involved making tough decisions, experiencing difficulties and being uncomfortable. Not everything worthwhile comes easily and that is true whether you are a YouTuber or the average person.
Yes! Theory really resonated with me when I came across their channel earlier this year. Yes, I'm a bit late the the party, but I'm also a 'little bit' outside of their demographic age-wise.
I've always believed that challenging yourself and facing your fears is the way to grow as a person. Yet, I've never jumped out of a plane or even thought of doing an iron-man race.
Matts story starts with the team challenging themselves to a few odd but totally achievable things and builds to the extraordinary; things many of us would consider impossible for themselves.
However, I think the most important lesson I've taken from this book is that it is easy to stay or tag along with the familiar and ultimately loose track of your own goals and dreams.
We get carried away. Very often, the first time we notice that we need to stop and think, are the signs of burnout, feeling overwhelmed and detatched. Sometimes, it is right to give up on the direction we are going and do something else.
This may be the story of Yes! Theory but it is also the story of a man discovering himself.
Matts emotion and passion shone through. The struggles he experienced in changing the direction of his life, the sincerity and the strength really resonated with me.
I laughed and I cried along the journey with him.
And in the end, the uncertainty in what may happen next yet just going with it just reaffirms the Yes! Theory motto - "Seek Discomfort" and that is exactly what I feel compelled to do for myself.

The ambition, to promote that we will find happiness, fulfilment and truth by tackling challenges with a positive attitude to saying Yes.
Matt's personable delivery adds depth to the story's told meaning even if you don't know Matt from his YouTube past, you will be inspired by his words.
I never normally write reviews so here's to a step of discomfort, by giving it a go!
I hope anyone reading this is well and I urge you to find your discomfort to bring you closer to a more fulfilled life.
Great work on the book Matt and good luck in your next venture.
