About this listen

Born in the storm that doomed his father, Connavar grows to manhood among the mist-covered mountains of Caer Druagh, where the Rigante tribe dwell in harmony with the land and its gods. But beyond the border, across the water, an evil force is gathering strength, an unstoppable force that will change the world beyond all recognition. Haunted by malevolent spirits and hunted by evil men, Connavar sets out on a spectacular mission to save his people.

From the master of the genre, this is a tale of love and honour, friendship and courage, as Gemmell explores the intriguing worlds of Celtic myth and earth magic.

I've not heard of Ms Adjoa Andoh, the narrator before.

Her performance was peerless in my opinion. She brought the story to life, it was wonderfully done. On the strength of her performance and David Gemmell's reputation, I bought the next two books.

I can only influence my own mind, but I would recommend this book without hesitation if you like this genre.

I am an avid gemmed fan, the rigante series being my favourite.

I thought the narration was on the whole good.. however and this is a big one for me.. I cannot imagine any gem mel fan imagining the rigante accents as anything but Scottish , the whole series underlines how they are lowland and highland clansmen.. subjugated in the later books by what can only be imagined as the English .. albeit in a parallel universe ..

This won’t stop me buying or listening to them all, but a huge gaff by the producers imho.

Good listen

Loved the Rigante series as a teenager. You feel it’s a more fleshed out than the Drenai. Enjoyed the narration. Defo getting the next in the series, Bane is one of my favourite Gemmell characters.

They should have continue with the same narrator as the Drenai series, I’m going to battle through it but find it difficult to engage so far

Struggling with the narration

I didn’t want to like this having read the book many times before I didn’t think a woman’s voice would suit a David Gemmell book but, the lady reading the book was wonderful and captures the essence of the book in her performance. David Gemmell gone but not forgotten.

Wonderful narration!
