About this listen

The Pimsleur® Method has worked for millions all over the world. Totally portable; simple to use; Pimsleur works so you don’t have to. Swedish Phase 1, Unit 1 contains 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation, and isolated vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. The lesson contains full practice for all vocabulary introduced in this unit. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak Swedish. This course teaches the rikssvenska (or Standard Swedish) dialect, spoken in and around the capital region of Stockholm. The first ten Units of Pimsleur's 30-Unit Swedish Comprehensive Program, replaces the Compact Swedish.

Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Very easy to follow. I've done Pimsleur Mandarin Chinese course in the past so sentences in Chinese kept appearing in my head instead of swedish ones, so that was fun. It's like hypnosis, I suddenly remembered all the sentences in Chinese hehe Proof Pimsleur really gets knowledge deep into the brain.

Loved it. Fun to do.

I got this taster course for free. Unit 1 isn't all that useful by itself, as most of it is taken up by how to use the course. The course (Phase 1, if you by the other units) tends to provide a sentence, and then breaks down all the words in the sentence, and the pronunciations for the words. This is a useful intro. As it's free its worth tasting and seeing if you could work with the Pimsleur method.

It's just the introduction lesson you don't actually learn anything on here. It's about learning how to learn a language!!

It's the introduction

Lengthy, patronising introduction including a history of the person who devised the course. I do not get why the language should be spoken with an American accent, when speaking any language for a long period of time work others speakers would allow you to develop the accent of the language. Best get yourself a native speaking tutor 1:1 than use this audiobook

Uninspiring

Do yourself a favour and skip straight to chapter two or suffer the long winded wander to nowhere that is a 12 minute into if no value.

Chapter two is ok, but comes with even more repetitive and unwanted linguistic exposition.

If I had paid for this I would have been exceptionally miffed.
