Summary

The number one priority for Bradley Reynolds of Maryland's Organized Crime Taskforce is Andre Hector Federico. The mob boss is old school - a devoted family man, treacherous as hell, and paranoid enough to have escaped Reynolds's sting. Now Reynolds has a new plan: enlist prize-winning crime novelist Alan Seybold to concoct a foolproof chapter-by-chapter scenario on how to lure Federico out of his safe zone and collar him. There's just one condition: Seybold has to play by the rules of real life. Beyond that, the king of best-selling head-turners can have all the fun he wants. But as skilled as Seybold is, even he can't foresee where this thriller is headed - or just how dangerous its plot twists can be.

So disappointed

I suppose being a "very short" story I shouldn’t have expected much. BUT being written by Jeffery Deaver I expected much more than what basically seems to be the outline for an excellent novel.
I suppose that having a narrator who seems to be merely reading a script between breaths was to be expected. Why pay for real narration with a less than stellar ‘Short Story’.
In the future I’ll stick to Deaver’s full length Novels.

Suspence

Slow start but once into story becomes so intriguing. Definitely holds up to the title.

Apt Title for this Fun Short Story

This was a great short story about how a police detective uses a well known author to come up with a scenario to share a drug kingpin the police haven't been to touch. It works like a charm up to a point. Another great tale filled with twists and turns you didn't expect. Wonderful narration on the audiobook as well.

What if the police use a mystery author to stop a mob boss's crew? What if things aren't as they seem? Surprise Ending was a fun novella about a mystery novelist, a crime boss in a war for territory, and the ambition cop who wants to fight crime in an unique way. Twists and turns leave the listener breathless in this surprising thriller.

I was shocked this short story. Sure it was good,.

yeah, it was good writing, but the sorry would be perfect to stretch into a novel.

And what make me mad is thatI spent a small fortune on the book on what is essentially an outline
