Zzzz…
An easy listen, but dull story with unnecessary, boring descriptions. I agree with the negative comments about the narrator. The only good thing was that it was good to fall asleep to when going to bed!

Rom com meets mystery
Part rom-com part Agatha Raisinesque mystery. This would be better as a quick holiday read, rather than a listen.
The main character is Clara, a dedicated hotel manager who’s nonetheless very close to her family, she has put her career ahead of personal relationships. When her boss suddenly rushes off to Australia, Clara is left in charge of the owner’s Dorset seaside hotel, her bungalow and dog. This includes managing the motley crew employed by the hotel, including a failed thespian who runs front of house, and the gifted chef who’s a conspiracy theorist.
The story revolves around a series of mishaps that threaten the hotel’s reputation. Suspects apparently include Clara’s disgruntled ex boyfriend who she rejected following the gift of a round the world trip and the Heathcliffe-like Co-owner of the neighbouring hotel.
While there are some nice cameo events, the story is predictable (she falls for said Co-owner) and the source of the attempted sabotage so clearly signposted it lacks any real sense of suspense.
But what spoils this is the narration: while perfectly acceptable in the narration of the prose, the direct speech renders the Dorset locals gender less (Clara’s mother sounds extremely masculine) and strangled or nasal. While the description of the Purbeck area is fine, the depiction of the accent is non-existent.

Previous reviews agreed with!
This is a nice book and an easy listen and I would recommend it. The reviews with reference to the voices are very accurate. It is very difficult to distinguish between the characters and sometimes you do need to wait until the narrator references who is talking. Yes, the narrator isn't great at voices, but I don't believe that it is such an issue that it detracts from the lovely story.

*A fun Read/Listen*
This is a lovely light read and just what I needed after reading some fast paced thrillers. The main character Clara has to step up when her boss leaves her in charge because she has to leave the country to sort out her mother’s marital problems. This hotel is set in Dorset and the surroundings sound wonderful.
Well, just as Clara is finding her feet, things change when the hotel is hit by a catalogue of problems and issues. It soon becomes apparent that a saboteur is at work, someone is using pranks in order create bad press in order to sully their reputation, who is behind it and why?
While she is busy trying to work out who the culprit is, there are domestic problems with her grandparents, misunderstandings, undesired press and the possibility of love on the horizon. Not to mention a great cast of characters, will she be able to turn it around before her boss returns?…
A very easy read , I could really imagine the setting which they quote “We are here to help you make your dreams come true”.’

Nice listen
Storyline is ok, a bit predictable in places. The narrator was ok as the main character but some of the other characters were a bit weird, unfortunately.

Easy listen
An ok storyline but a very quick ending. The narrator was good as the lead role but not great as the other characters who all had very deep voices, this detracted from the enjoyment of the story for me.

Nice gentle read
This is a lovely book, well written and narrated. I have no idea what other reviewers are talking about the narration. I started listening to it preparing to be disappointed by how it was read but find her very engaging.

The narrator's voices impressions were bad
I didn't actually get past the first 2 chapters due to the narrator making every character sound like a very elderly posh person. Definitely put me off from listening anymore.

It was Ok
The story was fine: predictable but easy listening. I couldn’t get past the actor’s voice though. The character is supposed to be about 30 years yet she and all of the characters sounded like pensioners to me. All of the voices sounded wrong which meant that I couldn’t enjoy the story.

Fills in a few free hours
Thought I'd give it a go. Other review states 'all bodies are good bodies', given the author mentioning characters watching their weight. Presumably the human body is not supposed to be rotund and unable to be moved around properly on its legs. Not sure how you can be 'happy' if you're 30st and can't stand up! Also obesity causes illness and heart attacks. wasn't going to mention this, but seeing as the subject got raised...
With regard to the book...it's not exactly Rendell or Christie. It's a bit like a story you'd read to the kids at bed time. A bit simplistic with not a lot happening to be honest. I reckon I'll write a book and get it published.
It's obviously not that hard if you can put together a reasonably grammatically correct English sentence.
Like that one.
Also, one last mention...just 'cause it's 2023, it's not ok to be a fatty. Stop eating processed food, get off the sofa, and get some exercise...like the lovely, attractive lady in the book!
Anyway, if you're not that bothered about plot complexity and character depth, then this is the book for you.
