About this listen
Brace yourself for a fast-paced listen that will have you clutching your pearls, gasping out loud, and possibly wanting to jump into the book to shake some sense into a character.
If you loved the film Acrimony with Taraji P. Henson, directed by Tyler Perry, then you will love Success with the Wrong Queen.
Written from the male perspective, you'll follow Trey's journey from a young boy with a dream to him entering adulthood in a chaotic and sometimes unfair world.
Accompany him as he pursues his dreams, finds love, makes mistakes due to him having such a big heart, and possibly loses it all.
This novel is a mature listen that covers topics such as:
- Adoption
- Revenge
- Temptation
What would you do if you're always thinking of someone from your childhood? If you couldn't shake the feeling, would you satisfy your curiosity?
To outsiders, it may look like Trey's life is perfect.
He's got his wealth, his beautiful fiancée, Chyna, and most importantly, his health.
Looks perfect, right? What more could he ask for?
Though dreams become a reality, they haven't filled the empty space in his heart because there's still one thing missing....
Can he continue life as it is, or will he begin a journey to rewrite history?

For example, when Trey was removed from his mother’s care, there was very little backstory to help the reader empathise with his mother’s situation or understand her struggles as a single parent. Similarly, Trey’s eventual move to America and reconnection with Ayesha felt unrealistic and rushed. There was no real exploration of how Trey managed to establish his own gym, or how much Chyna contributed to this achievement.
Trey’s adopted mother was another missed opportunity for character development — her decision to move to America with him wasn’t explored. The breakdown of her marriage, and her experience raising Trey alone were all mentioned but never meaningfully explored. Additionally, when Trey visits his biological mother’s grave, it was unclear how this happened — was he back in England? His reaction to learning of her death was glossed over, leaving little emotional impact.
Ultimately, the story raised more questions than it answered. With stronger backstories and more attention to emotional depth, this could have been a truly compelling read. As it stands, it feels rushed and surface-level. While the book is described as a “mature read,” I would respectfully disagree — it reads more like a young adult or teenage fiction novel.
