Summary

Discover simple, science-based strategies for beating stress at its own game.

When's the best time to exercise - and how much is too much? Which foods fortify the brain, and which do the opposite? How can we use music, movement and motivation to boost our rational brain and keep our cool no matter what life throws our way?

This practical and groundbreaking guide reveals seven paths to fighting the effects of stress to strengthen our natural defences so that our minds remain sharp, and our bodies resilient, no matter the circumstances. Each chapter examines a common stress agent - including inflammation, an out-of-sync body clock, cortisol levels and emotional triggers and presents simple ways to minimise its harmful effects, for example, by changing your diet, exercising and other simple habits.

Translating cutting-edge scientific findings into clear and simple advice, Stress-Proof is the ultimate user's guide for body, mind and well-being.

Densely Packed with Wisdom & Information

I have a lot of books on Audible which I dip in and out of. Many are rambling and padded out, slow to get to the point and too full of anecdotes and stories. This one is dense. You can find such valuable advice and scientific backed information in every single minute - it really stands out from almost every other similar book I've purchased. The narator is well suited for the topic and doesn't distract from the information. I couldn't recommend this book more highly.

Great overview of the science of stress

This is a great overview of the science behind stress research. Might be a little hard to read at times for the average reader but all in all a great book.

Poor narration

Maybe its better to read the book, however the narrator reads like a robot. Very difficult to listen to.

Wealth of information to counteract stress

Soothing and well read, I will buy the physical book as there was so much in this book that I will revert to and implement.

Great book, terrible narration!

What a shame this is read so badly. Makes it very hard to listen to. I may have to buy and read it again :(

Perhaps think about redoing it with another more engaging narrator.

Important book

Excellent narration for a book that covers a lot of detail but simplifies the concepts into understandable chunks. I will use the text book as a companion reference manual.

Changed my life

As a long term sufferer of anietxy and depression I approached this book, like others, with a sense of hope. This book has made a major difference. I feel like I understand now and know how to manage and improve my condition. In fact, I don't really believe I have a condition anymore. I just have experienced life and all of its challenges. This book has helped me to understand this and how to understand me and my internal workings, so to speak. So many areas of my life have changed during the course of this book. My diet, my sleep, my exercise, my internal dialogue, my interactions with others and my overall self worth. There's still a lot to do and I feel I will be re-reading this book, with a notepad this time. There's a lot to take in. The author has truly earned their PhD. I can't be more thankful for their efforts.

Could be better

I have heard the author on a podcast and she was quite interesting, but some strange choices have been made in the production of this audiobook. As others have indicated, the narration is very dry, and I found my attention drifting. Also, despite both author and narrator being British, US terms, references and pronunciations are used throughout, so we have 911, cell phone, specialty, comforter and so on, which just sounds odd. The book is essentially a long list of evidence-based ideas for tackling stress. The author has said it was originally written as a 'manual' and that's what it's like to listen to.

robotic narration

if, like me, you listen to audio books before bed, this will help you wind down and fall asleep. The narrator is robotic in delivery and a lot of the content is repeated so no need to fire up your synapses ! if you can look past this and the monotonous voice with odd pronunciation and the repetition of words or phrases doesn't stress you out, then its ok i guess.
