About this listen

“The plot twists ingeniously...an engaging, often chilling book.” - The New York Times Book Review

A writer in California. A doctor in Boston. A motel owner and his employee in Nevada. A priest in Chicago. A robber in New York. A little girl in Las Vegas. They’re a handful of people from across the country, living through eerie variations of the same nightmare.

A dark memory is calling out to them. And soon they will be drawn together, deep in the heart of a sprawling desert, where the terrifying truth awaits...

As above this is no good for me it's full of swear words right from the beginning of course I didn't want to hear any more so I cannot give the reader his praise as I'm missing out on the rest of his reading. PJ.

I like long books and detail so am fine with that. But the narrator - yikes! Ruined it. I read a few reviews and decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. I’ll be giving him a wide berth on anything else. Normally my heart rate drops nicely when I relax to listen - but my watch feedback on this performance was absolutely tonto throughout. Probably shaved several years off my life. Everything from the really odd catch in his voice mid-word to the simpering portrayal of the female characters. I don’t like wasting money so I stuck with it and did my penance. Grateful it’s over.

Good story, awful narrator

What made the experience of listening to Strangers the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the book Strangers. The reading of the story was ok, although some of the voices, I thought did not match my ideas of the characters, eg Ginger sounded quite timid were to get to the position she was she would have to be a stronger character.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I enjoyed the character of Jack Twist, his fall from good to not so good but the rationale behind it.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I did not emotionally connect with this book.

Any additional comments?

I have read some other Dean Koontz books. His books pass the time, they can have good ideas but the ending tend to not live up to the story preceding. This story shows the difference in time from when it was written to the present day it is read. The story has a lot of cliches (although novel at the time it was written) that help the reader (or listener) to guess the twist in the ending, well before we get there.

Good book

I enjoyed this book. It will be a bit protracted for people who like fast paced action, but I enjoyed it. You think you know what happened and who the baddies are, quite early on, but there is a twist. The very end of the book was a let down. It feels as if the author just didn’t know how to finish it off. The Happily Ever After ending is beginnerish and a disappointment at the conclusion of an otherwise good story.

Enjoyed this book so much I thought I was reading a Stephen King book, Dean has his own style I'm sure but in this book I really thought at one point that I was reading a King novel. Beginning to like this author very much. Thankyou Author and Narrator.
