About this listen

Peter Stone is a poor, black vampire who is wondering where his nightclub, mansion, and sports car is. Instead, he is working a minimum wage job during the night shift, as being a vampire isn't all that impressive in a world where they've come out to mortals.

Exiled from the rich and powerful undead in New Detroit, he is forced to go back when someone dumps a newly-transformed vampire in the bathroom of his gas station's store. This gets him fangs - deep in a plot of vampire hunters, supernatural revolutionaries, and a millennium-old French knight determined to wipe out the supernatural.

To keep this simple… I really enjoyed this because it doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The narrator was really channelling his Samual L Jackson vibe, which isn’t a bad thing. I’m pretty sure that it’s something the author was trying to do.

It is funny. Not as LOL as the Supervillainy series which is my favourite but is more so than his other series.

I had high hopes for this one, I loved Bill the Vampire and expected this to be just as amusing, it is not really in the same groove as Bill but it is entertaining and it is amusing, albeit in different ways, I found this book to be more serious than Bill in general but a pretty good storyline kept me listening and I loved the narrator who kept me on track when my mind would otherwise have wandered off.

If you're familiar with CTP's books then you won't be disappointed here. His style holds true with the humor and immediate leap into the story with no slow burn winding up. Just boom, here you go! The main character as well as the supporting ones are well-rounded with distinct and charming personalities all their own. I really enjoyed the narrator's voice and almost hoped he would launch into Barry White "I can't get enough of your blood, babe!" The only issue, and why I gave him a measly 3.5 stars, was his cadence. There was some very long pauses between dialogue and dialogue tags. I'm talking what felt like a full 3 count. It did get better toward the middle onward. Looking forward to the next book.

I loved this, Wraith Knight was good, but this is so much better.

It's not your typical vampire story. there's calamity galore. The jokes had me laughing my head off while driving and I must have looked hilarious as there were a couple that had me in tears. So many references that just made this story one of my all time favs!

Charles really knows how to do funny! And Cary was the perfect voice for the characters, especially the MC Peter Stone. Great fn all around and I want more of this one too! well just more of this to be honest.
